2012 F30 320d SE BMW AUC problems....

Hi all,

just bought a 2012 F30 320d SE BMW approved used car with 9k on the clock from a dealer 3 days ago.
i test drove the car last week and it drove great, and visually the car is in immaculate condition.

unfortunately after about a hours motorway drive, then driving in town traffic.
there is a knocking vibration coming from the clutch pedal, and the engine feels to be running a bit rough.
the problem only presents when the engine is warmed up, and driving around town, more so when accelerating and the engine is under load.
although it can still be felt when cruising at higher speeds on the motorway.
I'm just disappointed that mechanically the car doesn't seem to be as good as i expected.

i spoke to the dealership that sold the car, who are a fair distance from me. and they advised me to take it to my local dealer to look at the problem...

...My car went into my local BMW dealer this morning.
Did a test drive with a technician, who agreed that you can feel the knocking vibration through the clutch pedal.

They have the car to investigate it now, just waiting to hear the outcome...

Nice looking car

Not good having a problem straight away with it, hope they get to the bottom of it and sort it soon.

Do BMW have an exchange policy if it isn't sorted out to your satisfaction?

i'm hoping they can easily repair the problem, as otherwise i'm very satisfied with the car.

but i believe BMW AUC's have a 30 day/1000mile exchange/refund policy...

I've got a noise (somethin like a screw dancing) coming from the central console just below aircon vents on bumpy roads. Couldn't figure it out from where. And the bloody squeeky leather noise almost all the time from the drivers seat. These started 4 months after I bought it, initially haven't had any sort of noises.

yes, i see the main BMW uk site has a new web page that doesn't mention it. it's still on some of their dealers approved used web sites though.

Ah so it must be a dealer specific thing. The audi one seems to be nationwide.

well the outcome seems to be no outcome....
one technician agreed with me in the car that morning that there was a vibration issue, but he wanted to check against another F30 320d
when i rang back to ask how the car was doing i was told it has been tested and found to be the same as other F30 320d's

when i went to collect the car i test drove a loan F30 320d, (with a different technician who had done a 'back to back' test with my car and found it to be the same).
the loan car was absolutely as smooth as silk compared to mine, i was stunned at the difference.
i when asked the technician to re-test drive my car he did, but was not very forthcoming during the test drive about how my car was vibrating.
he did eventually say that the car was vibrating more than all the other cars he test drove, but when back at the dealership said that it was 'engine specific' or something like that, and normal.

the technician said there is nothing relating to this problem in the service notes from BMW.
but eventually said they would open a 'puma' note on it on Thursday and wait to hear back from BMW next week.

i feel like i'm going crackers...is it me? or the car?
i keep going out for a spin turning up the stereo trying to ignore the noise and vibration hoping i'll get used to it.
but it doesn't work.... the more i drive it the more i realise there is something wrong with it....

i think i'll just have see what happens with this puma thing in a week or so, but have a feeling nothing will come of it.
iits a shame i feel totally disillusioned with my new car...

Try another dealer near to your place...vibration via clutch pedal is not a good sign of the DMF/Clutch assembly

the production date is 29/2/12
and the registration date 29/3/12

to be clear, i've tried to be as descriptive as possible explaining the fault.
the knocking vibration i can feel is very noticable, i feel it mostly through the clutch pedal but you can hear the same knocking sound coming from the whole engine. which sounds very tappety and rough.

one of my colleagues that has since driven the car to see what the problem is said the knocking is extreme. and thinks there is a major fault in the mechanics of the engine.

i'm going to contact the dealer that sold the car,
it clearly isn't of satisfactory quality.

finally got it all sorted.

dealership took the car back and had a black F30 320i in stock.
test drove it and picked it up last tuesday.
they did a deal with a service pack and brushed aluminium trim kit to make up for cloth interior.
(new leather interior being fitted at trim technik on friday)

the sales team were extremely professional, very courteous, and helpful,
and made sure i was completely happy with my purchase.

Great choice of engine though I'm slightly biased. Just much much more fun than the diesel. Glad you got everything sorted in the end

Tbf I haven't driven a 330d - I would imagine its quite a different animal to a 320d, but after years of low powered diesels, personally I needed revs

Yes, if we are talking low powered diesels then to be honest almost anything would be more fun. But high powered diesels, well that's another matter.

Glad you got it sorted, just such a pain when your car isn't quite right - plus you got to switch back to petrol
