2013 sedan or 2014 coupe

I'm struggling with decision on a 2013 3 series 328 sedan vs. 2014 428 coupe. My dealer offering significant discounts of $5000 off MSRP for 2013 sedans in inventory. I can only get $1,750 off 428 coupe. And with the added savings, I could move up to 335 sedan.

My wife has a Volvo SUV and I have a 1989 325 convertible as a weekend car. This new car will be my daily driver. My kids are in college and they have their own cars. I have always preferred coupes since I think they are sportier and most of time I am driving alone or with my wife. I was leaning toward coupe, but the savings on the sedan is very tempting. I'm purchasing the car, so I want to keep for 7-10 years.

So the trade off seems to be practicality and lower cost of sedan vs. sportier coupe. I know this is a personal preference choice, but I am struggling with the right, long term choice. I'd appreciate any advice.

IMHO if you don't have that much use for the back seats get the coupe. It is sleeker!

2013 335 sedan would be my choice but you really can't go wrong.

I assume you've tested engines... What did you prefer?

Since you mentioned you might like to go with the 335i sedan, IMO more important is engine choice over looks

The sports car is a little more expensive.

Yes, I've tested 328 and 335. 328 was very quick - faster than the E92 328. The 2013 335 was noticeably more powerful, especially in torque. I can easily live with the speed of 328, but I sure wouldn't complain that the 335 is too fast . Although I'd get more speeding tics.

Key thing is I'm trying to have no regrets with this new car - so I won't be tempted to trade in too soon.

If only BMW's warranty included paying our tickets we receive while driving the "ultimate driving machine" the way it is supposed to be driven.

2013 f30 335i is a far better choice than f32 328i. This is no brainer for me.

I personally think the F30 looks better than the F32, so I would pick the 2013 sedan over the 2014 coupe.

If you don't need the practicality of a 4dr the 2dr is always more sleek/sporty. I went from an E92 to a F30 and I can't wait to go back to the coupe.

It may be tricky to buy the first model year of F32 in production. Especially since you plan to keep the car for several years. How about looking at some E92 (328i coupe with inline-6) in stock, maybe you can get a decent deal on those too. Granted the tech is old and not a whole lot to make any difference IMHO. That NA6 will be a rarity soon. No turbos, perhaps more reliable and refined with years of improvements on the E9x platform. Just my 2 cents.

The F32 series really isn't more attractive or sporty than the F30 series, as compared to the E90 and E92.

The 2014's really aren't that different from the 2013's either.

That said, if you are indifferent to sedan vs coupe, why not use these amazing incentives to get yourself into a 3/4 series with a much lower payment?

My advice: Wait until the 4 series comes out and test drive it before you make a decision I know it might be a while but it's the smart thing to do

Get the coupe. You said no regrets. You don't want to be six months in and think, man I should have gotten the coupe. And no matter what anyone else on here says, the f32 is much sportier looking than the f30.
If the 2.0t is dissatisfying at all, get the _35i.

At least from pictures the coupe doesn't look good without Msport. Even then it's still just ok. That front end kills the whole car. The sedan is a lot more pleasing to look at.

I have the f30 sedan and I say get the coupe in Estoril Blue! Just make sure you get the M-Sport.

If you are gonna keep it for years why not purchase a used low mileage (plenty of them with less than 10k miles) m3 for less than either of those??

All good advice here so far. The 428xi I have built is M sport, prem, Estoril Blue, DHP, drivers assistance package, cold weather package, nav, and Harmon Kardon. MSRP of $55,350, for which I can get for $53.600. My dealer has a 2 335xi sedans with almost the same options at significant discount. One is base line glacier silver, the other is black m sport. Both have prem, cold, tech package, Harmon Kardon. But neither has DHP. Silver has PDC. Black one is $52K after discounts, silver is $49,500.

I'm leaning toward coupe because I drive alone most of the time and my wife has SUV when we need more room.

I've been struggling with the color too. I love Estoril blue, but I worry it looks too flashy and harder to keep clean. I have had silver before, and it hides dirt so well, but when clean doesn't look as good as darker colors to me.

Lastly, seems like most of you prefer m sport. What's wrong with sport line as an alternative? I like the red accents and stitching.

Estoril Blue is gorgeous but in my opinion if you're planning on keeping the car for years you may get tired of its boldness. Otherwise it shows the lines beautifully.

Nothing is wrong with the Sport Line. Most people on this forum are anti the front lower bumper of the 4 so if you opt for the M-Sport variant it eliminates this. Ultimately it's all about what YOU think... its your car, your money. You have to live with it everyday so pick what you love most. (Go coupe!! )

Go for the coupe what I feel your tempted to go for the F30 because the dealer is giving you a good discount that's it. Which means this is a decision driven by your brain and when it comes to cars I like to use my heart esspacially your saying you want to keep the car for 7 years so $5K divided by 7 years doesn't really mean a lot... offcourse it's your money your car but thats what I think
