     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
so from the this picture that i'm seeing on a 328i, it looks like I should be able to replace the stick on my car.

i currently have the one on the left but want the one on the right... should it be an easy upgrade? plug n play type of upgrade?

The shifter on the left is the standard 8sp AT shifter. It has a plastic boot.

The shifter on the right comes with 2TB -- the sport AT. In US models, you can only add 2TB if you also order ZSL or ZML.

BTW, the car you pictured looks like a ZML car without 2TB -- an abomination, IMHO.

I am not sure what Yobyot stated is true but here are the options Yobyot is referring to:
2TB - Sport Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters
ZSL - Sports line
ZML - Modern line

I believe Yobyot meant to say ZMM not ZML.

ZMM - M Line

I don't see why this wouldn't fit but would love to know. It looks slick.

I think you should be able to swap the part. The lever doesn't actually connect to the gearbox I don't think, it's drive by wire, right? So therefore, it wouldn't be that difficult to swap?

Contact your dealer though to be sure

N-Y, I am not sure who quoted you $1,200 for this, but that price is not fair. The M-Performance shifter is similar in appearance is going for $180 MSRP (you can get it cheaper on Ebay) and according to Jason's post, it should take 0.3 hours to install: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=783743
If M-peformance shifter can be installed on any automatic, I bet one can retrofit sport auto one in a non-sport auto.

I recommend you speak to a parts guy: unlike realoem.com, their database will actually tell you if a part can be retrofitted in your vehicle.

Yep. Ask parts department guy at the dealership for help. I have always had good experience with that approach: they can give you a pretty good idea if a component from a differently-optioned car will fit yours based on your options.

As I understand m performance shifter only changes the trim on the lever. It is not the whole thing with leather. And it has different versions for sport automatic and automatic. it is not one fits for two of them. This is the one for regular automatic.

I would like to do this change. Sport auto was not avaliable with modern line. Ticher bmw lists the sport auto lever as $711. It is too much.

Why didn't you just get sport auto in the first place? That is always the first option on my list. The whole software mapping is different.

good reason. Sometimes after a great deal that happens lol.

I know I want to save money on options with my next car so I'm thinking of forgoing Nav,but I'll probably regret it.

Highly recommend getting nav. I considered excluding nav on my 335 (although I really wanted HUD). I sold my 2010 TSX before the lease was up (had nav) and drove my fiance's car (without nav) on and off for about a month. While I rarely use nav, it was a PITA without it. Just my opinion.

The car doesn't drive any differently, 2TB just adds paddle shifters to the steering wheel and has a slightly different "stick"
