Not impressed at all...100HP(crank) is easily attainable.
Tune and FMIC done. Likely just tune only and a drop in filter. I would have been much more impressed at their price levels to see 450HP |

Um, it's a twin turbo setup.........and if its bigger turbos like Alpina does (a la the B7), then there could be some nice potential.

What do you guess a car like this would run - price wise? As always with tunes, it's nice to maintain the OE warranty. Would kick ass if they put a LSD on there too!

What does 410 crank HP equate to the wheels? 370whp?

N54 does not exist anymore, well only in the Z4. The Alpina has N55. It is modified, technically. SO if you can get +100 on N55 with tune, cats, etc, you can get at least another 50 on the Alpina. 4.0 sec is fast. Makes me wonder what the M3 will do. What if the Alpina had xDrive? 3.6 sec?

0-60 this car will keep up with the (reported) 600hp+ M5/M6. Makes me wonder if M3 could achieve(hopefully similar speed) *And people N54 DON'T EXIST in F30.

I'm not sure they could have made it 20% more fuel efficient than the previous one with the use of a plain N54 engine. However, about 10% comes from the new transmission, but where does the other 10% come from ?
I'm not sure Alpina would go into so much trouble as to fit (and program into the ECU) a twin-turbo manifold on the N55 engine. The N55 is also not very well tested for this kind of power, while the N54 is tried and true. All BMW had to do to fix the N55 engine was to fit a Valvetronic head on an N54 and call it N55. Maybe that's what Alpina did...it would explain the fuel efficiency. Last edited by kevinlevrone; 02-15-2013 at 06:04 AM. |

If it has Valvetronic then it's an N55. My guess is that it does given the quoted efficiency numbers, but I would love to know for sure.
That doesn't make sense though. It would make more sense to replace the N55 single turbo charger with a twin turbo setup (possibly adapted somehow from the N54, but possibly not). Changing an induction system is typically a lot less involved than creating a Frankenstein head/block combo, and no significant advantages lie in the N54 short block anyway.

I remember there was a Manhart racing visit post a while ago on 1addicts. It pictured a customer n55 1 series being worked on. They were to turn it into a twin turbo setup. It has also been said in that post that the guys at Manhart mentioned the upcoming Alpina will have the same treatment.
unfortunately this thread is gone now... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=727559&page=5 here is a little discussion on that topic that has develoiped: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738756

The Alpina B6 actually pulls away from a BMW M6 (F13) initially so I don't doubt the numbers. However the B7 LCI seems to be a dud especially at $140k against a S8 (which I happened to order btw). I think the weight was the issue not the engine. I doubt we will see the B3 since BMW does not want to risk losing sales to the new M3. Alpina does not have the dealer network to do it alone in the US.

The B3 clearly shows that the N55 is capable of, if given the correct transmission, ECU, and cooling. I agree, the B7 doesn't bleed too much into the 7 series territory, but the B3 would erode the 335i and M3 sales substantially...

That was my thread. Here is the link. euro 1Addicts visit Manhart Racing GmbH... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=732251 That black 135i was in fact an N54 car. But Mannhart will use a N55 head and upgraded twin turbos. Their target is to be faster than the new F80 M3/M4. 550 PS they say is their target goal. Mannhart also hopes to have the car finished and at the IAA Fracnkfurt auotoshow in Sept. The same car show where BMW should be showing the new F80 M3. We shall see. My friends at BMW AG tell me the next F80 M3 will use a N55 engine as its base. The internal engine code is S55. It will also use twin turbos on a tweaked & tuned version of the N55 engine along with a water to air intercooler. 450 PS is //M GmbH's goal... but right now it looks like 410 or 420 PS is more realistic Hp level.
