Those tests are said to be impartial. It implies the F30 328 does a very good job representing itself and comparatively among the class. So where does the 30-35whp seem to get you that enables such elitism and trash talking?

I did wresting, track AND marching band. Football players would trash talk the "band geeks". Except for the fact that we had a competition traveling team ranked the best in the northeast and they lost almost every game that same season. So yeah, they would talk trash, then you would bring up their record and point to the bands big trophies in the case. That and they were showering up with a bunch of dudes and we did co-ed dressings in the back of the bus.

Magazine tests are garbage these days. They fake the results if you pay them enough, compare cars with unequal configurations, etc.

The only real competitor for 335 out there is S4 and it's a very good car IMO. Even an E90 M3 would have a hard time competing with it in certain categories. At the end of the day, it's a matter of personal preference and you can't go wrong with either one.

As far as 328 vs 335 goes, I agree with you that with F30 platform the gap between the two is much smaller. Both are great cars. Now the only problem that I have with F30 is how UGLY non-msport front-end is. If there was no msport line, I would have probably skipped BMW and went straight to Audi.

The magazine conspiracy is a bit contrived. Many who claim that are the people who would watch BMW always win.

The S4 is a good challenger, but I have also seen the ATS 3.6 chosen over the 335 too.


I also agree with you on the M-Sport. When I saw it in EB2 all of my hold offs on the F30 disappeared.

Just curious what test or measure a stock 335 would even come close to an e90 m3? FOB straight line sure but stock absolutely nothing.

But again 4 pages of talk yet not one video! I guess time will tell when a video is posted than people can stop arguing and either see that the 335i puts a couple bus lengths or maybe the 335 only puts a half a car length. Then we will have some real data!

Based on physics equally driven cars a 335 should put 5 lengths on a 328 or more. That is not bus lengths but nothing to sneeze. Street racing videos are less than scientific.

Rolling races are pretty scientific if your metric desired is simply who wins and by how much. Rolling from 30 mph and mashing the pedal takes most other factors out of it. As long as they are both autos that is pretty solid testing for straight line rolling pulling power. So 5 lengths in what stretch? That is a bit too brought. 5 lengths in 1/4 mile or in a full mile or what are we talking about?

I would love to see a rolling race from 40 to 140 of a 335, 328 and e90 m3 to really see the spread of power among the three cars given the 3 different pricing schemes.

Don't understand why people like to compare with 328i and 335i. People have different tastes. I llike the deep tone of 335i exhaust sound, and my friend likes the gas mileage on the 328i. We never compare with which car is better and faster cuz we know we didn't buy our car for this reason! There is a reason why BMW experts putting two models for F30 in the market instead of one~~

Edit: Everything in this post is wrong! It looks like the site I mention below has gotten the weight of the European 328i wrong.

Just out of curiosity I compared the the European and the NA 328s and 335s. Apparently the F30 in the US are considerably heavier than the ones we have here in Europe. For the 328i, the difference is 140 kg (300 lbs). I could make some crack about this being the weight difference of the European and the American driver, but the listed weight was without the driver.

Automobile-catalog.com simulates various performance date based on the cars' specs. I don't know how accurate it is, but it seems that the European 328i might be very close to the NA 335i in performance.

The simulated figures for 0-60 mph for these two cars are 5.2 and 5.1 second respectively. For 0-100 mph, the difference is starting to show a bit with 13.8 and 13.2 seconds.

I would hazard the weight difference isn't real when the cars are similary optioned

For instance, the base 335 in Europe can be had with a cloth interior, cloth is not an option in the US - I would assume standard features on the base car make up the weight difference

Also, in the US, all 335's come with a sunroof as standard and Xenon adaptive headlights, etc where the 328's do not - that affects the weight difference between the models as well
