Most I've got from a tankful is a saving of about 10 miles

In my experience I get little to no mpg benefit using Eco Pro on motorways (i.e. cruising at a steady throttle).

Wow, I salute your patience. I've tried to do that but have never got more than a few miles before the fun takes over from the sensible

It monitors how you drive in non ECOPRO mode and compares, so if you did a track day in SPORT then trundled home in ECO it would show a huge saving.

If you drive sensibly to start with, ECO PRO may not show any fuel saving.

Interesting - motorway (or steady speed) driving is where I see the most gain, whereas I see little difference on "normal" roads.

That is exactly how I see it, those who show the greatest gains will be changing driving habits with Eco Pro mode, compared to their normal driving.

It is how guys were getting over 60mpg from 1.9 - 2.0 litre diesels over 15 years ago, without any Eco modes, just light driving, cutting down energy demands. BMW are helping more drivers see what is possible, that can only be a good thing, if it shows what can be achieved if we drive moderately.
