Yea i still find it kinda quiet. do u know how long does it take for the exhaust to break in?

Just out of curiousity, why did you decide to buy a 328 and spend money to mod it rather than buying a higher performance car like a 335?

probably 50-100 miles to completely break-in...it still is pretty quite inside the cabin though.

Tbh, the new f30 328's are pretty good in performance already. 0-60 times are pretty close, gas is much better, lighter and with a tune and some mods it will be close to or as fast a 335. Or, maybe even surpass it. For that reason, I didn't buy a 335.

If it was still using the same motor as e9x I would definitely had bought a 335 or even a M3 because to make power that would equal to those will cost a lot of $$. But even then, the older 328 is still a good car, but just not enough power for me.

Yea it's still pretty quiet inside, but u can definitely hear it from the outside. I love how when u downshift u can hear it pop!

The downsides of the 328 to the 335...

-Exhaust/engine note
-Less power, the 335 traps about 3-4mph faster and is half a second faster to 60 and in the 1/4

Upsides to the 328...

-A bit lighter on it's feet, a bit more tossable as it's 150lbs or so lighter
-Real world MPG, I drove an 8spd auto 335 on a loop where I got 35.5mpg compared to my 6mt 328 at 39.9. If the 335 was a 6mt, it would have likely been worse.
-Price difference of about $4k, a bit less if both cars are equipped identically.

So to me, the first two things against the 328 were easy to overcome. A proper sounding exhaust worked wonders. Is it the same as a BMW straight 6? No. But it sounds good.

The less power? Easy fix. I got my BMS tune for $300. Look at what it does to the numbers, now every bit as fast or faster than a 355. My exhaust put down an extra 20ft lbs to the wheels and 7whp, so add that to the results below.


So for very little money you have the lighter weight, improved handling and better MPGs out of the 328 with the same or more power of the 355 with improved sound, albeit not the same kind of sound.

I cheated a bit because my exhaust was free and I chose the 328 because of the deal I got and it's the DD to my blown straight 6 BMW-the 335 would have been redundant a bit.

I just had one installed and what you said is my exact experience. One more thing of note for me is that now I am using the paddles for more than just high speed driving. Now that I can hear the exhaust, it's more fun to click through the gears -either fast or slowly- I love it!

That is $300 very well spent indeed. It's amazing how close these numbers are to magazine road test results I've seen. The 328 is very consistent. Are these numbers for YOUR car or a car that BMS tested?

I personally bought the F30 328i M-Sport with the intention of modding it over the 335i because there is a significant price difference between the two in the Western US. Unless ordered (didn't want to wait) pretty much all of the 335i's available were hard loaded with options in either luxury or Modern line, no M-Sport's readily available and the difference between what I got (M-Sport, EBII, Premium, Dakota Leather, Paddles, heated seats, EBT) and what WAS available, was about $15K. For less than $1200 ill have more HP and torque at the wheel and can further personalize it while STILL having quite a bit of savings AND will still enjoy better gas mileage....
