Help please. Baggy Leather.

Please, could a few of you kind people post some pictures of your driver's seat base for me so that I may strengthen my case with BMW in case I run into difficulties with my faulty driver's seat base being replaced under warranty.

Thanks.

My car is 2 days old and my driver's seat looks like this:

Thanks John. Most grateful. Mine is after 7 miles!

I weigh 10 stone and 5 lbs and am 6'1".

The passenger seat is fine as are the seats on my ex-wife's car. There is no way my posterior or weight could cause such a deformation in such a short space of time.

Basically, the driver's seat base is buggered. :

Mine looks like RichardM after 190 miles and 11 days. Was tight when I took delivery. Leather stretching...

I will be surprised if dealer gets authorization to replace your bottom leather cover. And assuming they do the leather will be from a different lot and may be slightly different visually.

Also do you really want dealer techs taking your seat apart on your brand new car to replace the bottom cushion? Knowing full well that within weeks the end result will be the same?

Just trying to help.

Maybe not the best photo in the world but hopefully it will show enough.

Didn't check the mileage but it's nearly 4 months of use now

riberry's car has got everything. I'd love to make a swap to play with all his options and sit on his soft cream hide!

You can, but you have to order through the BMW Individual program.

It is a lovely bit of hide and brings a smile to my face whenever I see it. My wife also loves my hide and takes the chance to caress it whenever she can

Looks to me like BMW have opted for the wrong leather layout.

Showed the seat picture to my wife, who's a skilled seamstress and dress maker and has worked with leather... 'boney bum' was her first comment.

Then she discusses the way the leather is cut and the seam is longways, all the weight gets stretched into the one long panel with no real reinforcement. "What do we expect?" type comments, it will 'seat' as she termed it, and there is nothing that can really be done about it, depending on what leather quality is used and how the dyes affect the suppleness of the leather itself. Seems different colour dyes need different textures in the leather, so the possibility that some colours can be affected more than others. That was new to me.

What she also mentioned, the way the E90 seat leather was cut, the panels are across the seat and that typically spreads the load better from local pressure. The leather can yield, without the same high pressure points of the F30 seat design. A bit more to it than that, but that were here first observations.

Look at picture in the link, seems leather stretch is not at all unusual and going to be the norm.

http://www.autoevolution.com/testdri...12/i-3686.html

Personally I'm not seeing any real solution to this, as other than a virtually solid base, under the leather, we'll have this issue with the seat panel design.

OK, get the dealer to swap the seat cushion, but I'd see it happening again with a few miles added, maybe a bit different, but not going to be tidy long term.

Don't like being negative about solutions, but seems BMW may have got this one wrong, by the design choice, and/or materials.

True they will stretch to a point.....inevitable.

I guess F30AM's point is that he wants to be the one that stretches them, not someone else. No doubt even a new seat base will look the same after 1000 miles. I personally wouldn't want to chance having a different dye batch which would happen if it were to be replaced, especially not with Red.

Best option would be a discount on some BMW merchandise. Try get 50% off and we'll all put in a group order for M Performance and snap in connectors, lol.
