Watch the F30 3 Series assembly process at the BMW Rosslyn Plant in South Africa. See the F30 in Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly, and Final Assembly.

The F30 is currently produced in three different BMW plants - Munich (Germany), Regensburg (Germany) and Rosslyn (South Africa).

How do you find out where your F30 (or any other BMW model) was built? The answer is located in your car's VIN number. The 11th digit of your VIN indicates the plant of assembly.

Quote:
A, F, K means production at Munich, Germany
E, J, P means production at Regensburg, Germany
B, C, D, G means production at Dinglofing, Germany
L means production at Spartanburg, USA
N means Rosslyn, South Africa
W means Graz, Austria

This got my looking at my vin number, and I see the 11th digit is an "V", so I wonder where it was built.

Wasn't there (or is there) a troll here that would claim your BMW wasn't a real BMW if it was made in SA? Thanks for the link, I will definitely watch it later.

I took the factory tour when I took European delivery on Dec. 5th in Munich. If you have the opportunity, I recommend it. It's a lot of fun.

FYI on the N55 engine. It's not made in Germany, but Austria.

Hmm, my Munich build 335i Window decal says

Country of Origin:
Engine - Germany
Transmission - Germany

Do SA builds get their N55 from Austria?

BTW, my 2010 E90 I just returned was an SA build. Was virtually trouble free for 36 months.

I'm sure the massive build quality problem in the SA plant is being ignored by BMW to make a quick Euro.

I'm not too impressed by this production line, are any 328s still made in Germany??

Idk but the German production line just has a different feel to it, all have gloves, matching uniforms and a body language that says, "excited to be working here building bimmers". The guys in this vid didn't seem that confident or something.

I bet if you couldn't see the people's faces in the video and this was relabeled "new production line in Germany" you'd all be going fanboy nuts over how amazing it is.

Seriously, the amount of stereotyping and intolerance in this thread makes me wanna

Agree. I've test driven both SA and German built 328's and 335's. No noticeable difference at all except for the fact the German one rattled quite a bit. Probably just a bad one but shows you the Germans can do dodgy assembly too.

BMW US-based assembly has the worst reputation over here, probably mostly due to the design/quality of the X cars that are produced there. SA isn't generally considered a problem amongst NZ buyers.
