Any way to use the backup camera as a DVR instead of buying a second dash cam?
I just purchased a dash cam to keep a record of what happens in front of me. I was wondering if anyone had tried to hack into the backup camera to use that as a DVR instead of buying a second rear view DVR dash cam? There's even an auxiliary port in the trunk to use as switched power.
If not, there's an idea for someone with more time and skills than me.

OTOH the German sedans have a lot of options to disable some of the electronic nanny's, since much of it is legal in other parts of the world - I coded it so I can watch movies in the MMI while driving for example (never actually used it ).But overall, if I were you I'd rather just buy a second camera if I really cared. The backup cam is horrible quality, is facing at a bad angle and gets badly distorted when it rains/snows. It would seem like a lot of work to figure out the coding/interface/splicing necessary to install the DVR while *not* messing up normal function...just my $.02. |
