Four point harnesses are for non-competion purposes. Schroth makes DOT legal four point harnesses that can be used for street use and high performance drivers education events (track days etc.). I suggest the Ralleye or Quick Fit models for BMWs.

I had a Schroth quick fit harness and loved it, but I haven't been able to find one for the F30. I want it for the occasional track day but also I'd probably leave it in for street use as well. I was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident and can't brace myself while taking turns so the 4pt is a huge improvement over stock.
