That is the turbo and air getting sucked in. You would know if it was an atmospheric vent.

correct, but you can still hear the recirculating valve. drive with the windows down, get on the gas, let go. you'll hear it.

So that's what that was. I always thought it was a little too quiet to be blowing off to atmosphere. I can normally hear it from a distance on the WRX STI.

You drive a BMW...leave the BOV and aftermarket intakes to the ricers and 16 year olds. No one else thinks it sounds like a bottle rocket I guess...lol

I love the sound of atmosphere blow off valves.
My 1990 Laser/Eclipse turbo had one and it made a great turbo engine sound on shifts. Being a BMW a quieter recirculating valve does keep things quieter and probably more appropriate for this type of vehicle. Still, I wish BMW could have designed it to be more noticeable just for the sound. Even the turbo boosting is quieter in these cars. Turbo's of old had a louder whistle as they spooled up, and then the psssst on shifts, glorious. ![]() But no, I don't hear any "bottle rockets" in my 335i. |

I love how "Antabeee" and "Joshleee" (see a pattern here?) need to add that little "lol" to their question about making it louder. It's like "I'm ashamed to ask because I know it's lame but here ya go, lol".
