My friend traded in his 2009 E90 328, for a F30 sport line 328. All along, he told me that he didn't like the beak, and how the car felt. We both went and test drove the sportline F30, and neither of us was impressed with the way the car felt compared to our E90s. When I asked him what made him change his mind, he said I just want to have the newest model, even though I'm not really feeling the F30. He told me that he really misses the heavy, tight feel of his E90. I told him hopefully he gets use to the F30. Has anyone switched to the newer model, just because it's new and regret their decision. As for me, I'm keeping my E90.

Well after driving the faster and more nimble F30, I can't blame him for thinking his E90 is heavy and tight. But I don't see that as a bad thing at all.

The E46, and E90 to me are good looking. I like the look of the F30, except the front. I'm asking has anyone switched to the newer model because it's just that " NEW " although they weren't 100% sold?

If I had an E90 I really liked, I would not trade for an F30 just to get the newest body style. As it happens, my E70 was in for service and they gave me an E90 335d sport loaner, which I drove back to back with my wife's F30 328i sport. If I had a choice, I would take the F30 even though I liked the weight and feel of the E90's steering better, but it's all personal preference.

I switch cars every new model, starting from E36 to E46 - Easy. E46 to E90 - very, very easy. E90 to F30 - not going to be that easy as I agree with your friend 100% about how tight the E90 feels.

My 325i, which I bought in 2005, still today feels every bit as new and tight as it did when I took delivery of it that sunny 29th July Saturday morning.

I am not having second thoughts, just feeling sad to part with it in the next few weeks. But looking forward to the F30. No regrets.

That's possible. Enjoy your F30. We were hanging out yesterday, and he took me out for a drive in the f30. I must say the car absorbs the bumps on the road better then the E90. Making it smoother. He allowed me to drive the car, and set it to sport mode. That made a slight difference on the steering. I think he is trying hard to like the car. He also commented on the 4cyl. Yes, it has more pickup then the E90. Just sounds like a diesel when idling. He said he should of leased the F30.

I would love to know how many people test drove an F30 only to drive it exclusively in COMFORT.

I would not have bought an F30 if I did not immediately drop the car into SPORT +.

I only drove a 335i Lux and a 320D ED, neither of which was particularly well equipped, the 335i was a manual and had hardly any toys and the 320D ED, whilst it had the 8AT, was standard spec. So the driving modes did naff all in either car that I would ever have noticed.

I ordered the 330D M Sport with adaptive suspension blindly

Absolutely not. I had an e90 328i and had a loaner F30 328i and it was so much better, faster, more efficient. 10 times more fun. But I decided to step it up a notch and opted for the 335i sport. Couldnt be happier. My f30 335i gets better mpg then my e90 and is lightyears faster. Plust I think It looks sexy as FAWKKKK...

I don't think that's a good reason to get a new car. At all. He should have kept his E90, and you should keep yours if you don't like the F30.

Last week I got an E90 328i loaner. My F30 335i was in for a heater issue.

The steering heft in the E90 is very heavy. The F30 even in sport mode is still a bit light. Neither is "best".
My 135i had a great feel.
After having my 135i and now 335i, the E90's heft feels too heavy and unnaturally heavy at that. It doesn't give any more or less steering "feel", it's just heavier to turn the wheel.

Initial braking feels better in the E90 as it does with my former 135i. There is a bit less pedal travel before the bite comes in compared to the F30. Modulation also seems a tad better in the E90 when I compare it to my 335i. Overall braking feels very good in either model.

With AT in the E90, the 6 spd, I can easily come to a complete stop very smoothly, never a problem. With my 335i AT I can't make a smooth complete stop if my life depended on it. It just doesn't feel right, like there is still too much torque being applied to the rear wheels and as I'm braking I'm fighting against it and when the complete stop comes it always ends with my head jerking forward and the front of the car diving a bit and then rebounding with some lateral pogo'ing. Very UN BMW like.

I had to take my 335i in the other day so that they can finally fix the heater issue, and they gave me an F30 328i AT. I can make a smoother complete stop in the 328i, but not as smooth as the E90. There is still at times a bit of 'jerk' motion on the complete stop.

That's about it for things that are slightly better with the E90. Over all the F30 has a better controlled ride. The power difference is eye opening.
The 8spd AT surpasses the 6spd even though it too was great when it came out.

The interior design and inclusion of iDrive elevates the F30 well beyond the boredom of the E90's interior.

Totally agree.

I felt the E90 steering was heavy just for the sake of it. Like when someone shakes your hand and just goes way over board. You kind of look at them like, "and the point of that was...?"

Yes, his 2009 E90 had the sport package. I agree that there is less bite on the brake pedals. I do like the F30s interior. I thought BMW's were know for that tight, heavy, planted on the road feel.
