I'll be taking out GAP Insurance. With the huge number of BMWs being stolen in the London Area, I was advised it would be a prudent thing to do. I will also be installing a special coding device which will doubly secure the car from being driven away by a thief, that is, unless they lift it with a crane or helicopter. As far as trackers are concerned, they don't stop the car from being stolen in the first place. It just provides a better chance for its recovery, probably in a trashed state!

Look at these two sites:

http://www.ala.co.uk/

http://www.car2cover.co.uk/

It's hard to not justify getting GAP insurance when the premium is so low but the potential cover is so much.

I'll definitely be getting it.

Without a doubt, imagine the horror when your insurance payout doesn't cover the cost of replacing the vehicle on a like for like basis or doesn't over the cost of repaying a loan - that's a scary thought.

YOU might be a safe driver but there's always someone else that isn't.

I went with the Vehicle Replacement+ from ALA. For the small amount it costs when compared to the car or even one thing on the options list it seemed to be a useful addition.

If you use the code GAP12 there as well you'll get 10% off the total

Go private with Click2Cover, save hundreds and get much bigger cover. and it's transferable to one other car. which I have done.

I didn't take the cover offered by the dealer as I'd rather shop around. Also, as others have said its also about where you live, plus your attitude to risk and what you do with your car. In my circumstances I've decided not to take GAP insurance. Time will tell if that was the right decision.

RJBERRY...thanks for the discount code!!

I was going to pay £600 just for the GAP insurance with the Dealer!!

Looking at the ALA quote for around £835 I can get GAP, TYRE, ALLOY and DENT/SCRATCH cover.. which is not bad at all.

Has anyone actually made a claim yet under these type of policies...any issues encountered?..thanks guys.

you've been "STUNG MATE".
I paid £199 and got £3K back from a fiesta we had from new, it was 2 years 11 months old and due for sale when some Wan**r wrote it off, we ended up with "New money" for the write off.
I have used this same company for all my cars they are well cheap and do the business, good luck.

I was offered GAP by the dealership at the usual eye-watering rate so I went to car2cover (who I used for GAP on my E81) and got a quote, I also got a quote off them for tyre insurance having had to replace 3 RFTs in 2 years. When I went to collect the car I showed the dealer the quotes and they matched them on the spot - no quibble.

There seems no such company called Click2Cover that does Gap. Do you mean car2cover.co.uk?

Also, make sure you go through a cashback website such as Quidco!

I think I got about £20 cashback from Ala.

These figures seem very high, I got a quote today for less than half that from ALA??

What's the more popular choice, BACK TO INVOICE or VEHICLE REPLACEMENT?
