BIMMERPOST NEWSLeaked: F30 and F31 3 Series diesel models coming to N.A. in 2013 BMW announced over the summer that the US would be getting new turbo diesel engines (a 180HP 4-Cylinder and 255HP 6-Cylinder), and now we see that BMW is planning 6 new diesel models for the NA market in 2013 and 2014. The slide you see below was reportedly taken during a BMWNA meeting and it reveals the upcoming diesel model lineup and schedule: • F30 3 Series sedan diesel - first half 2013 • F31 3 Series touring - second half 2013 • F10 5 Series diesel - third quarter 2013 • X5d diesel - end of 2013 • 7 Series diesel - first half 2014 • X3d diesel - first half 2014 No info yet on which models may receive what engines, but the 4-cylinder mentioned above may see duty in models labeled 20d or 25d; and the 6-cylinder may power models labeled 28d, 30d or 35d, as well as their counterparts in the xDrive models. No matter the nomenclature, this is wonderful news for the BMW's NA customers! Slide via Vwvortex Share this story OTHER STORIES YOU MIGHT LIKE |

Thats exciting. I like what Im reading, they didn't give up on the diesel program in the U.S even after the 335d was not very successful. It was very expensive IMO. Hopefully with the 4 cylinder and lower price it can do better and sustain North American customer base.

Do the BMW 4 cylinder diesels have an auxiliary cabin heater? It gets pretty cold up here in Canada. I'm worried that I would freeze all winter. Even worse, I'm worried my gf will freeze all winter!
My 328i 6 cylinder gets nice and warm pretty quickly. |

In the US, gasoline is less $ than diesel in most places in the country. This is due to the low sulfur diesel requirements imposed a few years back. However, diesel motors typically get better mileage.

Hope so - I'm about 60% sure the F15's going to replace my Acura MDX about next year this time (assuming it's out by then) - going to battle with the updated 2014 MDX (assuming Acura doesn't kill the SH-AWD which they're rumored to do - if so no dice)
If BMW sells the F15 here in a diesel - that'll finish the argument for me - where do I sign |

In my area diesel is approx. .10 - .15 cents more than premium. But, considering the better fuel economy and tons of torque, I think it's worth the extra cost. |

It sounds like there's no guarantee of getting the 330D, they may save the 3.0 for the bigger vehicles and go with the 320D in the US to focus on the fuel efficiency.
F31 320D would be a pretty nice all around daily that's for sure. Torque FTW.

Freezing diesel used to be a problem around here (Minnesota), but these days they produce a winter blend that doesn't seem to freeze. I had a Touareg TDI for a couple of years and never had a problem.
