Tyre and Rim insurance
I am wondering if any of you have taken out tyre and rim insurance through BMW. With the run flat tyres running approx $700 each for the M Sport I am contemplating whether to spend $800 to get 3 years protection. Apparently it does not cover anny scuffing to the rims just major damage.
Friday is D-Day - taking delivery of my 328i M Sport finally ![]() |

Congrats.. keen to see some pics.
I didn't bother with the tyre and rim insurance as I am more likely to damage the rims reversing into a curb than to get a flat. I was informed that I cant claim a new wheel in this case so. MEH |

Yeah I am with J1n, all I was interested in was it covering gutter rush/rash and yet it doesnt, so I didnt see the point. Although I was told by Auto Classic, I can purchase Tyre Rim insurance at any time, as long as I bring it to be inspected beforehand. Not going to bother.

Yeah, I wouldn't bother either. Keep the money for a new set of tyres down the track.
There were problems with 19" wheels cracking with runflats on the e9x, but BMW upsized the tyre sidewall heights on the F30, so i think that's less likely. Personally, I've had one puncture in the last decade. That was on a Bridgestone runflat which I simply drove to my local tyre place and had it patched for $30.

Just an extension to the T & R insurance I was offered, my dealer also offered my a 3 year extended car warranty. I can add this warranty just the new car warranty runs out. I do not know the cost as I was too excited to concern myself with it on the delivery day.
Anyone know the cost? Of course it may be a Stillwell Motor Group warranty.

Rim scrapes & scratches
Thanks guys. when the dealer told me the policy didn't cover scrapes etc I figured the policy vale was diminished. I live in NSW just outside Canberra and travel some pretty ordinary roads on my commute each day so potholes are a potential issue. I will probably pass on it as my main interest was related to gutter scrapes etc. I will just have to be careful.
Pics of new car to follow on weekend. |

Hope youand your Bimmer are safe
Hey DarthBimmer... hope you and your car are safe and dry. We have been watching the effects of Sandy unfold there in NYC and New Jersey on TV here in Aus. Some major damage and a pretty large repair bill. I wonder what effect it will have on your presidential election?

I was thinking about purchasing it too on the weekend.
He mentioned that you are allowed to redeem 2 wheels a year, I forgot the cost per year. I need to do my research on how much each tyre is. If it is around $400 each than properly not worth it but the manager told me each tyre cost $800 for 18 inch. |

Sounds worthwhile then. Especially because I change my wheels every 2 years or so. I will check tyre rack how much each tyre is before deciding. Had a look at tyrerack. The Continentals that I have on at the moment cost $300 a pop. If they charge $800 each, that would be ridiculous but not surprising. |

I was told about $2,400 for an additional two years and advised that there had already been a 30% increase increase in the premium this year so I shouldn't delay...... When I still wasn't sold on the idea I was told that I should "seriously consider it" as BMW in general have huge electrical problems when they get older and she gave me an example of an x5 that cost $5000 for one electrical replacement part. Not a technique I would of used on a first time BMW owner lol Will look into it in a couple of years time, scare tactics don't work on me. Allianz underwrites the extended warranties and BMW insurance, well they do in Perth.

Personally if i'm looking for a second hand car.. i wouldnt care about the warranty. I'll go for the cheapest deal available which I'd say is 80% of what the ppl will look at.
If I was to sell it to an entusiast he would probably buy a 0-2 year old car if the car is expensive. Just my 2c |

Extended Warranty
I have never bought into extended warranties. I have had a couple of major "out of warranty" repairs done gratis by a couple of marques. Most recently on my Forrester XT premium where Subaru picked up a $4000 bill for an issue with emission control valves. They were pretty easy to deal with on this. Some years back when I owned a MGF a stern letter to the MD in the UK did the trick. My approach has always been....I conform to your service intervals and get it serviced by you my local dealer. I would love to buy another one of your vehicles when i am next ready to buy, how can you make that decision easier for me?

Most Run Flats can be repaired..
e.g: if you can a nail in one (like a non run flat, as long as it not on the side wall) it can be repaired.. There were a series of Run Flats that came out with "Do Not Repair" written on the sidewalls (Bridgestone).. but I do not know of any that have this for the past 2 years... I have had one of run flats repaired on the 123d and there has been no issues so far.. Keep the $$$ in your pocket unless you happen to be a shit driver and scrape rims against gutters.

However, one should keep an eye on a repaired RFT for a while, just in case it does not work properly. I agree, keep the $$$ in your pocket until the really good 328i tunes come along. Yes, park away from the gutters and curbs.
