New N20 Tune Available - aFe Scorcher
Looks like aFe is releasing an N20/26 tune similar to the BMS stage 1. I'm guessing the two will be very comparable but still looking forward to seeing some more results outside of their own dyno.
While I've already got the BMS tune, I'm happy to see more parts surfacing for this car

Yeah, 272/300 with just intake and tune. Very nice. I would like to see price of the tune, BMS for $375 is hard to beat.
I have nice gains from the catback already so I plan on taking this to about 280-300whp before calling it a day.

I called mod bargains, they said pre-ordering will probably start next week sometime. Pricing will also be available at that time.
I called afe and they also said probably next week. He told me pricing might be around $450. Hoping for final pricing to compete with the $379 BMS tune. |

Would love to see back to back dynos. $450 vs $380 is meaningless, it's about the better tune.

I guess more importantly is does aFe do any circuit tuning or is their tune drag only? Terry@BMS confirmed with me that their tune is engineered toward street drivers that just want power. He didn't say BMS wouldn't work for 20 minutes WOT, but he avoided saying that there was anybody doing it.
I'm going to send a mail to aFe and see if I can get an answer for the track drivers out there. Other than that, coming into a market well penetrated by BMS already with a more expensive product seems like a tough sell. btw, that dyno chart has the stock car SAE corrected at 1.03 vs 1.02 on the tuned. |

There is an act that supposedly protects us from having say aftermarket springs void your turbo warranty but you would have to go to court and it's basically a pain. What the service manager doesn't know doesn't hurt him. |

This isn't being harsh it's just common sense mate. BMW have a range of performance parts out already, and a factory power kit will likely come out eventually if keeping your warranty is important to you. |

The best bet on any warranty question is to consult a local attorney well versed in warranty law.
Second best bet is to read the warranty terms in your user manuals. They are very specific - BMW only guarantees the parts on the car to be free from defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty does (and should) not cover changes you make to the car that remove the original parts. People will say that BMW has to prove that a modification caused the defect. That is technically true in the US (not sure about anywhere else). BUT...and this is a BIG but... do you really have the resources to fight BMW over this? They have an army of engineers, experts on the car. What do you have on your side? The internet? SEMA? Realistically you lose that battle because you can't afford to fight it. So while the argument is technically correct, it is also largely irrelevant. Here's the bottom line - assume ANY mod you do to your car may void the warranty on parts in any way related to the mod. If you can't afford, and are unwilling, to pay for subsequent repairs yourself, don't do it. Mod responsibly and with integrity and don't try to cheat BMW into paying for repairs necessitated by your modifications. |

This brings up a lingering question I've had, albeit a bit off topic - when running JB stage 1 on an N26 motor and you simply do not plug the solenoid connector, the bypass valve remains electronically controlled. Does this have an effect on anything? What exact purpose is served when controlling the bpv on the n20? I'm not to sure on specifics, I just have an idea what it's supposed to do, any info would be helpful
