Who determines which tires are used? Is like Mercedes-Benz where the dealer orders which tires they would like on the car or is it only determined by what is available at the factory?

We picked up my wife's F30 3 days ago. Her car has the Contis on its 19" rims.

i hope to god i do not get 19" bridgestones. they are absolutely the worst tires. i dont even know how they manage to stay in business this long or why bmw would go with them as OEM... other than profit margin.

The Bridgestones are actually some of the best rated tires of that lot.
The S001 is a wonderful tire.
Most here hope for Bridgestones

It depends whats at the particular factory the car is built at at the day and what wheels/line the car is ( eg M Sport will get Summer tires and not all season ).

Exactly. I have them.
Overall a very very good tyre.
From lateral Gs through braking to aquaplaning etc. it's one of the best you can have. Though they're a tad noisy..

But there are always tyres which stand out of the crowd in ONE of those(and there are many more) disciplines.

I had S001 Potenzas (non-RFT) and they are incredibly good in the wet and the ride comfort is awesome, however in the dry they are not the best, unfortunately. Also, they wore out very quickly in the rear, unlike the RE050A.

I liked the RE050A RFT better in the dry and also lasted very long (30000+ miles on a 335i) and I sold them in ok condition for $200 ), but the ride comfort is not the best. RE050A has amazing dry grip, better than S001.

I guess I'm the opposite. I feel like the S001s are a bit grippier in the dry than my old RE050As. Both pale in comparison to my old RE-11s though. I don't understand the criticism of Bridgestone. They consistently make some of the best tires on the market.

i had bridgestone potenzas non-RFT on a 2004 X3 and they lasted me about 22k miles before the tread started fraying. there was a whole website back then dedicated to trying to get BMW to replace them at no cost.

i also had bridgestone RFT on my current 2009 e90 and they lasted me about 26k miles

on the other hand on our 2009 X5 the michelins lasted us 34k miles.

i guess im speaking to the durability of the tires.

They make both summer only and all-season versions of the tire.

The higher performance tires usually wear quicker
Michelin ultra performance tires will wear just as fast

Continental DWS rated at 50k miles, had anyone actually have it last that long? I'm planning to put it in my 19"s.

I want to be able to drive all year on the same set of tires (in at least light snow conditions in winter), so want to swap the performance tires on my 2012 Sport Line for all season tires.

Honestly I dont like any of the tire choices. I will likely pull and sell the stock tires, whatever they are, and put Pilot Super Sports on for the warm weather, and get dedicated winter tires like Sottozeros or Blizztecs.

The F30 328xi with the sport package does that come with summer or all season i cant seem to find that out anywere. And my dealer is of no help.

Lazy CA you've got! Maybe look elsewhere?

When they order your car they choose ZAS (all season) or ZPT (summer tires). ZPT includes 840 (increased top speed limiter)

Because all the ones listed here are max performance summer tires.
