Winter tires: 17" or 18" - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

Looking for winter tires. Is it safe to get 18" inch winter tires? or is 17" inch better?

17 is safer, cheaper and you have more to choose from.

if you have 335i, you probably have to go with 18' the smallest size

I think we will find BMW OEM will allow 17" fitment. F10/11 5-series 535i will take the 17" winter wheel package. I've a 17" winter set for my 535i, they are listed on the specification options.

The issue is more for aftermarket rims, as some have a different shaped well in the rim. Therfore will foul the brakes.

If you plan on driving in the snow frequently, the heavier the better.

I doubt there will be much difference between 225/50/17 and 225/45/18 in winter condition.
