F30 Brake Squeal

Anyone else had squealing brakes? I have a 10 day old 335 msport that developed squealing brakes soon after delivery. When I took it in for service, mine was the first f30 the dealer had seen with this problem. Their research revealed a PUMA measure for the fix (#52226124-01). The service report states as follows: "REMOVED BRAKE PADS FROM ALL FOUR WHEELS USE A FILE TO CAREFULLY DEBURR THE EDGES ALL AROUND THE BRAKE PAD ON THE BEARING SURFACE FOR THE BRAKE DISC. CLEANED BRAKE PADS LUBRICATED BRAKE PADS. REINSTALLED AND TEST DROVE. OK"

I also have this problem. I sprayed some brakleen on it to stop it but the squealing is slowly returning. Whats messed up is that I can't take the car in to get it fixed because my car is too low. Thanks KW.

This problem and that solution are extremely common to any car with decent brakes.

YMMV, but stopping too slow over long distances and riding the brakes or creeping forward at stop lights can cause them to glaze. braking 2x harder than normal once a day or so should help keep the pads fresh.

Sometimes you can get away with running a thin metal shim between the piston and the brake pad that will dampen the squeal as well.

Glad i'm not the only one with this problem. I also have a 3 week old 335i xdrive msport and i noticed brake squeal right after applying brake force before i come to a stop. I figured it would eventually go away after a "brake-in" period, but even after numerous attempts of braking hard, it squeals those few seconds before coming to a full stop. Kinda embarassing, especially with a new car.

Looks like i'll be making an appt. with my dealer for this soon.

Have not had this problem. I've heard that chamfering the pads (some come this way) stops the squeek.

This is the common solution because it keeps you out of the service department for a little while. Basically they are taking a pad that has square edges and knocking down the front edge so it sits more like this instead of straight cut but they wear back to straight anyway. This can be done by you at home fairly easily, the brake pads come off of this car fairly easily.

Brakes (and tires actually) squeal from tiny movement as long as it isn't the wear "sensor" material down low although performance brakes usually don't have this because we have real sensors (do yourself a favor and replace the pads before you wear into the sensors because you don't need to buy new ones) You have to isolate out vibration which usually means shims. I chased this for almost a year with my GT3 running track pads and every time I drove the car on the street for more than a few miles the pads would squeal until I started putting thin metal shims behind the brakes (in my case they were provided by Porsche for just such an occasion and would only fit those calipers)

I had the same issue with mine. I took it to the dealer and they thoroughly cleaned the brakes and everything is quiet now!

Sorry to hear this. You could always bring the car in for service every month and watch them slowly grind your pads down to nubs.

Ah, the pleasures....

i took delivery of a 335 and i am having this same problem. i tried break cleaner with no success. i am now at about 1300 miles and it hasnt gotten any better. is the solution a trip to the dealer?

my 07 pontiac with warped rotors and no e-brake is quiet as anything when stopping and my brand new 335i sounds like a clunker.
