Heavy Steering in Comfort Mode! - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

There have been lots of complaints about the light steering in the F30, and how you have to be in Sport Mode for it to stiffen up. For many of us with the autos, that means the car won't shift above 6th gear on the highway unless you do it manually, and you have sharper throttle response that you don't want/need that will use more gas.

Well today I discovered that you can get the heavy Sport Mode steering, while keeping the car in Comfort Mode. No coding needed, no workarounds... hopefully this isn't old news...

Disable DSC!

You now have Sport Mode steering, while staying in comfort mode.

Good find. So you mean just a quick press of the DSC/DTC disable button? Not the 3 second hold?

No, the full hold to disable DSC, not just traction. You'll feel the difference the second it's disabled. The display should show DSC OFF.

Probably not for an unskilled driver driving aggressively in inclement conditions.

Hopefully everyone here can exercise sufficient basic driving skill to stay on the road without actively relying on stability control. If not, we have bigger concerns than whether they choose to push the DSC button.

It is frightening to contemplate drivers who cannot steer a luxury car without electronic assistance.

Truth. What's more frightening is witnessing drivers behind the wheel of any type of car eating a cheeseburger with one hand whilst composing a text rivaling the length of War and Peace with the other.

The real issue, of course, is that some drivers don't realize the dsc has been saving their butt as they push the vehicle.

So, switching dsc off on a driver that is silently relying on it seems crazy stupid.

Probably best it has to be reset after shutdown. I am sure I would get a call from my wife if she took the car that something was wrong with the steeering and why is that light on.

Sounds like a must try..

Seems to reset back on each startup. Either way, its just a few second push of a button...

You lost me. How does this relate to my post?

I suggest only that every driver should be able to easily handle a luxury car, such as the F30, without electronic traction control, electronic stability control and training wheels. If not, his driving should be limited to a desk - preferably one bolted down and in a chair without wheels.

Similarly, if you cannot feel the car take control, the traction control kick in and do not notice the light on the dash when the nannies take over, you also should not be driving.

whatt? this is a terrible idea, I assume you desire the tight steering so you will be able to feel the road more and be more connected SO I am assuming you will be driving a little spiritedly.. yes you could be a good driver but perhaps you accelerate a little to quickly on a wet patch, there's a chance you'll spin out..

check the E9X M3 forums.. look out for crash threads... in crashes which the driver lost control of the car, almost ALWAYS, everybody asks if DSC was off. and the answer? often yes..

I tried that tonight and yes in comfort mode with DSC off the steering does tighen up.....nicer than the regular steering in comfort mode but for me DSC is a safety net that I would not sacrifice for the sake of tighter steering.

If I want a sportier drive I will throw it into sport mode with tighter steering, more sensitive throttle, and higher shift points otherwise I will just relax and leave it in comfort with DSC on.
