Rest in peace. While in Malaysia. Even if u bumped into d truck. Its still u fault because whoever bumped into d back of other vehicles, he or she is at fault. Doesnt matter u rest in peace or rest in pieces.

What happened to the doors? All I see is the drivers side rear door. All other doors are gone. I assume they cut the roof off to get to the driver, but would they cut off the other 3 doors also or did the impact send them flying?
I think firefighter had to cut doors & roof to get into the driver.

Second, to those speculating the doors did not "fly off". They were cut off as well as the roof by the emergency responders. It's common practice to get to the occupants of a vehicle. Also, there is nothing wrong with BMW pillars. There is not a car currently made that would withstand the amount of energy absorbed in this crash without massive damage. Nor is there a human body that can absorb it.
Being a firefighter myself its actually kind of sad to see these pictures because I know what this person looked like. This is essentially a death scene and unfortunate that its being pasted on the Internet. You probably wouldn't want your mom or dads moment of death pictured for the unwashed masses to speculate over. Disrespectful to the dead.
Peace to his family in the difficult years ahead.
+1 on this.

Considering the truck was also moving on the same direction the BMWs speed must have been at least 110mph or higher.
This kind of crash is not even tested at crash test facilities, there is no crash absorption here at all by the front bumper (see front bumper and front wheels are very intact ) but only by the windshield, pillars and the roof that are not ideal nor designed to absorb high speed front impacts.
If the truck had some kind of lower bumper the outcome would have been different.

This is a terrible piece of news. Neither can I understand why they decided to do high speed tests on a public road when they have so many racetracks at their disposal...

So sad for everyone who was actually involved in this. Both drivers, their families and friends, the emergency services...

According to the source of the source, it wasn't a test driver, rather just a test car...normal BMW employee.

+1

I use the autobahn everyday to commute to work and I see it happening all the time, trucks purposely cutting you off as soon as they see you approaching at high speeds. 9 time out of 10 are always drivers from eastern European countries such Romania and Bulgaria. No wonder the highest accident and mortality rates belong to those countries.

How can a hybrid test on the autobahn can be "highly negligent and reckless"?

I have seen this type of accident frequently as I work at an insurance company. You guys need to realize how frequently this happens in the United States.

http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr030111.html

In the US this can happen even at 35 miles per hour. This has nothing to do with car manufacturers. The problem is the design of the underride guards. Be safe out there.
