Arrow 0-60 in 4.xx Seconds

For those of you unaware, the P3Cars vent gauge has a 0-60 function that will clock exactly that - your 0-60 acceleration (on top of many other things it does). Basically, when you are stopped, the gauge will read "Ready" and the moment the car moves, a timer starts. Once your car hits 60MPH, the timer stops, and voila - there is your 0-60 time. Pretty cool (and addicting) feature!

Well today I finally had the chance to install the BMS Stage 1 tune on my N26 328i. When the opportunity arose I had to do some 0-60 runs! My car is a standard 8spd N26 328i currently on the OEM 17's w/runflats with some mods from the lovely Evolution Racewerks & Burger Motorsports. Current power mods are:
-Evolution Racewerks Intake
-Evolution Raceworks Downpipe
-BMS N20 328i Stage 1 Tune

On a level gravel road (mediocre traction), one passenger, and all windows down I was able to clock 0-60 in 4.91 seconds earlier today. With better tires, a good road, and no passengers, I'm really excited to see what happens. Just thought I'd share my experience, the N20/6 motor is quite potent! If anyone else has 0-60 times recorded on level roads (in other words, no cheating :P), share in this thread

That's great news! I am assuming you brake torqued on the start? How much wheelspin did you get?

Got 4.90 on the way home last night, still not ideal conditions though. Need better times!

Nobody else has the P3 Gauge?

What do you have to turn off the SES light with the downpipe?

No passengers, about 72 degrees, windows up & A/C off. Only mod change since last time was key hole cover. Same location as previous times. Really makes me want to hit the strip!

That seems to be a little too good to be true.

We are talking nearly a 1 second improvement from 30whp.

I plugged in some numbers here:

http://www.060calculator.com/

These types of calculators are ballpark at best, but fun nonetheless. To get the types of numbers the P3 is reporting you would need 320 hp, even with the most generous weight and transmission available on the calculator:

Horsepower (at the flywheel): 320
Curb Weight lbs: 3400
Drive TypeTransmission: Dual Clutch
0-60 mph 4.619 seconds

More realistically, with an automatic trans and 3500 lbs, you would need 395 hp to do a 4.6 0-60.

Again, this is an on-line calculator, so it's FWIW.

Car is probably making 270whp, 320 at the crank is not very far off.

Yeah, when it comes down to it, numbers given by devices like the P3 have to be taken with a grain of salt. The odds of ground being absolutely 100% level aren't the greatest along with tire outer diameter being 100% as OE. Still fun to play around with and get some estimates though. Dyno and taking the car to the strip will be the real tells. Another idea, maybe the P3 allows for a slight rollout?

Actually, if we look at the numbers, this almost seems plausible. When ER dyno'd their N20 F30 with same mods, it was putting down ~270whp & 290wtq. Assuming 15% drivetrain loss, 270whp puts us at ~318bhp. My car is running same mods but with N26 motor, so may differ slightly outside of that. The other big factor outside of transmission type, weight, and horsepower is gearing, which can't as easily be considered via simple metrics. FWIW, when you plug in the numbers for a 370z Auto, the calculator gives 0-60 in 5.2 while real life tests put this car at 4.7. Still a fun calculator though!

Either way, some easy mods and this "240bhp" motor really livens up

Edit: Actually, a coworker brought up a good point. These HP & weight numbers seem pretty close to E46 M3 numbers. Maybe a few less HP but a bit more TQ. Bench racing FTW

I agree with you using that PS gauge is not acurate at all for acceleration numbers. But I dont think its any worse the 335i PPK people saying 20 hp makes the car stupid fast.

Perception and numbers are two different things lol. Ppk people are not showing 0-60 of 5.0 going down to 4.0 lol.

I agree but to me saying you lost a second 0-60 and saying 20 to 40 horsepower makes your 3600lb car stupid fast is just as bad lol

It is lol. I am still working on stupid fast in the e36/7, even 120mph traps might not be enough to qualify lol.
