Steering wheel volume control: what were they thinking?

Can someone illuminate me why would BMW put the volume control on the right side of the steering wheel? Who was the genius that concluded I will be using the navigation more than the volume?? I would like to meet him/her.

Yeah, I want to know what MORON decided to put the Nav screen where it is when it clearly should be 1 mm to the left

Apparently you don't have a sound system in your car. Or you are not using the volume. Or you drive with both hands on the wheel.

Yes it took all of 10 seconds to hop on over to quickmeme. Let's not get petty here, you're after all the one complaining about the location of a volume button on your steering wheel...

Well I have all the controls for the adaptive cruise control on the left and they are far more important than the volume controls when it comes to driving. And everyone "should" use both hands on the steering wheel while driving. But I only use one for a few reasons but still have no problem at all adjusting the volume.

I even sometimes push my luck and use the knob on the radio, but that is only when I want to impress someone...

This was another user experiences failure (small one). I hate how when I select a song from idrive, I cannot immediately use my left hand to change volume as before. I have to swing my arm back to the wheel. Before, I can use both hands to perform this task, now single hand...

On a serious note now, my car doesn't have the voice command option. So the voice command button on the steering wheel is basicly there but does nothing. Can that button be coded to operate another feature ? My idea is to have it set to mute the volume with one click. I had this option in my Audi and found it very useful.

The location of the volume buttons suits me just fine in a RHD vehicle.

Can you use the voice command to increase the volume ?

(Serious question as my F31 is still probably just raw materials at the parts suppliers !)

Not sure why people are giving you so much crap; I think it's a horrible location. Especially considering iDrive is controlled with your right hand (and still, somehow, has no volume controls near it). I don't think I've ever used the left side buttons at all.

Try having the Msport Wheel! Thigs you cant see:

Cant see Auto Wiper light
Cant see heated streeing wheel indicator
cant see a.s.s on of indicator
cant see auto high beam indicator

all ar tucked behind the wheel and ar not visible regardless of seat/wheel position. poor setup

The volume buttons are fine. I pick the music on my iPhone, mounted next to the in-dash screen - the iDrive music selector is way too complicated. But 90% of my music interactions are changing the volume or skipping a song on the steering wheel.

And I don't understand the complaints about the steering wheel heating. After a few weeks, I didn't need to look to find the button, and it's in very easy reach, and only needs to be hit once. Too bad it doesn't just activate when the temperature falls below a threshold.

Am I the only person not following the logic? The volume controls seem fine where they are. If I'm driving one-handed, it tends to be the right hand I have on the wheel anyway....

Forget the volume. I dislike the fact that the track-select buttons aren't on the wheel anymore.

You can select tracks on the wheel. But not if you're streaming music via Bluetooth afaik.

Hey I found a solution for you, just trade your car for a Sienna. http://media.caranddriver.com/images...s-1280x782.jpg

At least Toyota got it right
