Most outrageous option price

For a bit of Friday fun, let's hear what you think is the silliest price for one of the options.

For me the winner is.......drum roll.....

HUD £800

Nice feature.....but:

a. You can just divert your eyes a few degree's and see the same info on the dashboard

b. If you really need it, you can buy an aftermaret speed and rev HUD for as little as £99

Lets hear yours.....and the reason.

My old man says it's the only option he'd tick without thinking on his next car after having it on his 530GT. he said he could live without everything else but the HuD is amazing and the best thing since sliced bread.

However, the reason I didn't get it? Well to actually make the best use of it, you have to have Pro Nav, you have to have the speed limit thingimabob, you ahve to have the active safetly nonesense ... but after spending sooooo much money on things that are frankly supposed to be standard like Xenons, F***ing adjustable lumbar support, heated front seat, electric folding mirrors and then having to spend two Gs to get Sally SatNav & Friends, there was just no money left in the budget.

TV function at £825! What's the point?

Whereas the HUD has purpose, the TV function will just drain your battery whilst you watch a bit of TV. What is that important that you can't just phone home or use the Sky app to record?

Incidentally, I like the HUD. So much so that I'd even say it is one of my favourite options but that's just me

Agree 100%

The price of the pro nav is crazy.

Reading the forum I'm always surprised how many people opt for it.

I know it looks cool and good to have but it's a hell of a lot of extra dosh

I kinda know exactly where I'm going 90% of the time anyway

I agree about media thing. Save the £2000 and buy a lot of other options with that

Pro Nav is just a must for me - completes the car, and gives so much more than just Nav plus having a TomTom with trailing wires would do my head in.

But, I gota admit it really hurt adding it to the lease

Having driven a couple of BMWs with HUD, I see it as a brilliant bit of kit.

When pricing up an F31 I would have just left HUD off as too much of a luxury, as it was pushing the price, as was Satnav. I was still over £40k on a "4-banger" 328i without Satnav.

I won't rub it in... (much) that's why a nearly new 535i Touring with all the extras thrown in for free (well nearly) was my decision.

How many are adding Surround-View cameras?

They may appear a stupid and expensive option at £500, but having tried them on an F10 a while back, and seen how the "bird's-eye" view works, again another brilliant bit of kit for parking.

I've got them and they are brilliant. Not just for parking but for navigating around tight car parks too. When I leave the underground office car park I always flick them on and then use the screen to judge how far the various columns are. The tight left hand right angle through the gates at the exit is now a doddle.

I may have done it for years without them but now I've got them life is just that little bit easier

Totally this for me Looks like you and I went through the same thought process and reached the same conclusions I really didn't want to add NAV at the price and none of my builds included it until really late on in the buying process. Then I just swallowed it and added it in

Ooooh might be pipped by TV function, agree that is totally pointless, unless you are a chauffeur and wait in the car a lot ......and £825.....wow can buy a 40" LED HDTV for that.

I agree that the HUD is a nice feature......but it is one of the more expensive options, which to me is crazy. If you asked I would say HUD would be worth something like £200-250.

Just goes to show how different we all are.....I have gone for the pro nav.....wouldn't dream of having a car without it, but then again I have had similar before, so it has become 'normal' for me

Surely the most outrageous option price is split folding rear seats at £390/£320...are you having a laugh BMW?? Outrageous on £25k+ car.

I also agree on the TV front -£825 when you already have to pay £1995 for the pro nav!

The tow bar at £700 gets my beef too....I could go on....

Add me to the 'common theme' re HUD and Pro Nav. After buying an IS300 back in 2003 with a £2,500 built-in sat nav I swore I wouldn't buy another built-in system. However after seeing the new system demo'd I gave in. The icing on the cake though is that if you're an iPhone user, the best bit is 'free'... the BMW Remote app. Being able to do a Google search and then just send it to the car is such a time saver!

Also went for HUD after seeing it in my other half's car - love it now.

TV add-on - yeah, too much dosh.

How about the cost of metallic paint though? I mean £1,360 for Tanzanite Blue on a 320d Sport .... lovely colour but are they for real?

I know this will only affect a minority of people but perusing the options list I see €35/£25 for the Smokers pack

This was always standard on BMWs until now.

I very rarely smoke in my car but on the odd occasion my lighter has run out of fuel so it's handy to have the lighter in the car....suppose I could put a box of matches in the glove box !

Yeah, but it comes from days when all cars had 'smokers pack' by default....

....it was then made a 'free' option, but in reality it was included in the price generally.

Now that option has been removed from the overall price and therefore an added cost to add it.

I certainly don't want to be paying for an item I am not going to get, so will say 'well done BMW'

What annoys me more than anything... is they won't let me have mineral white on the M Sport. It's available for other specs just not M Sport.

YES!!!

I had my heart set for ordering the MW M Sport, obviously before the official price and spec guide was released. Gutted when it was all confirmed that MW wouldn't be an option. Still really happy with EBII, but MW would have been 1st choice.

I saw a EB in the showroom, was very very tempted! Lovely colour.

I wouldn't buy a BMW without the Nav, the ability to send postcodes and exact destinations to the car is invaluable. Yes you can get phones / navs that do that, but the integration is very handy.

HUD for £800 did seem steep, I had the pleasure of borrowing a dealers M5 with it on and loved it, I am led to believe the F31 HUD might be more advanced too - will find out in November.

£610 extra for metallic paint, but it's included with the 330d, so why don't they give you £610 back if you opt for Alpine white?

Yes 330D has front parking sensors and metallic as standard. These add up to close to £1000.

Means they could have left these off for a £1000 lower base. Sounds like a tactical price seperation for some reason.
