Both look awesome! I really hate the F30 M sport steering wheel, reminds me of the ugly Z4's. Aside from that the f30 looks awesome inside and out!

+1 While I believe the rear of the F30 looks better and some aspects of the front end favor the F30, the interior, wheel arch flaring, and overall flow of the car is better on the E90. The one thing that I don't like about the F30 is the extra bulk of the hood because the extra height of it minimizes the front wheel arch flaring. I think the hoffmeister kink is better on the F30 though! ![]() Both very beautiful cars! |

I think it's clear that the F30 has significantly improved its interior styling, I know when I considered buying the new F20, 118i, I saw the amount of detail put in to the new models. The E9X feels a little bare at times (can be an advantage). The F Series seems to have struck the right balance!
Contrary to my opinions on the interior, I'm still not 100% sold on the new look. Either way, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... And BMW is by far the superior brand in my opinion!

I don't know if you can compare the two. The F30 is an attempt to look much more sportier/agile while the E90 was more balanced, attempting to promote a more luxurious image while retaining sporty characteristics. They both look good for what they are.

I know that the e90 interior is spartan, but spartan ages well... there isn't a lot to go wrong with the interior, nor are there lots of crevices for dirt to build up in. With the f30 I am a bit concerned how all the glitzy trim is going to hold up over time compared to my aluminum trim I have now. And there are so many places with the different angles in the interior that will be a PIA to keep clean (I am a tad OCD with my car interiors). The screen also looks like it was an afterthought, I wish it was incorporated into the dash like the new 5. And from a distance the car is so... big. When I am pulling up behind a new 3 there is always this split second I am not sure if its a 5 or a 3. I like the exterior styling though, the fuel efficiency is great and I know that the new m3 will be lighter than mine... it will be a tough decision when the new m3 comes out. Not to thread jack - I do think the new M sport otherwise looks really aggressive up front, I like the wheels and I especially like the black kidney grills. It really improves the look of the car. Thanks for the pictures OP!

It seems every few years BMW can't decide where to slap the Xdrive / Xi emblem...
Both cars are quite nice. Thank you for sharing.

Exterior wise the F30 Msport looks better than the E90 Msport in all angles except straight head on. It needs a lip of some sort and drop BAD.
Can't say the same for the interior. I don't see the F30's interior an upgrade at all compared to the E90. Alan

Hopefully the beak is toned down with the LCI. I do like the color of the f30, just can't own it. Too flash y for me. The E90 just looks classy. I think BMW tried too hard on the front end of the f30.

Thanks for the visual comparison !!
Both are great cars, but the F30 totally picked up the show and went on a joy ride!

i guess F30 and E90 are not in the same league now cant really compare a sport compact sedan to sport mid-size sedan, F30 front look very nice but overall its a mini 5 series and not really a 3 series(e36,e46 ,e90) anymore.

E90 LCI looks more aggressive , the F30 looks like a classy sedan trying too hard to look sporty.
Saw the F30 on the road a few times, god that rear rectangular rear light is so ugly on the F30 series, thought it was a 5 series a few times i saw them in a black color , E90 LCI rear lights look so much better. The F30 front is pretty nice though. |
