How long does it take for you to get the VIN/Product #?
From my knowledge, I thought once you place an order, the dealer should be able to provide the VIN or the production #. I called my salesman today but he is saying it will not be available until 4 weeks later. I'm not sure how this works. If someone can please provide some info regarding this. Thanks!!

You should have a production number PRIOR to placing a deposit on a vehicle.
If you do not have a production number, you have no vehicle, and the dealer is not holding anything with your deposit as there is nothing to hold. Your VIN is assigned 1-2 days in to production.

I got it on the order date.
As I understand this is how things work. If he is not giving you the production number, it means that he doesn`t have any allocation. Then you are just wasting your time. You shoudl push him to trade one of this allocation with a 3 series and provide you a prod. number. |

If u don't have a prod# at the time u put ur order/deposit in... Your dealer is bs'ing you. Prod # is available immediately when order is entered even if the car is 5 weeks away from being built

VIN is a vehicle identification number and I don't think they check those out until the car actually starts to exist. Production number, if you mean order number, is available as soon as order is accepted by BMW (which means immediately in most cases I think).

4 weeks means that dealer did not have an allocation, which is BMW speak for the ability to actually place an order with BMW. IMHO, the dealer should have told you this up front so I would go to another dealer if that is an option where you live.

I just spoke with the dealer and he informed me my production time is week 38 which is mid September. So there is a good chance I will receive it by end of October/Early November. This waiting part is horrible!!

But I gotta say. I am really torn between MG & BSM. I have the order with BSM but the more I look at the MG, it makes my heart melt. I can still call them and have them change the color but man.....not sure what to do. I do love BSM also.

Yeah. On the BSM, I love how everything is just so sick looking and looks very nice during the night time. The MG looks really good with the MSport kit where it defines the black areas very well. hmmm..decisions decisions....
