BIMMERPOST NEWSBMW to Break Up Hybrid/Electric Technology Joint Venture With Citroen Just a bit over 15 months after announcing their joint venture (BMW Peugeot Citroën Electrification (BPCE)) on developing hybrid and electric vehicle technologies, BMW and Citroen are in talks to break up the partnership, reports Bloomberg News. BMW spokeswoman Micaela Sandstede told Bloomberg News that BMW is looking to take over the operations of the BMW Peugeot Citroen Electrification partnership. "Whether that means the joint venture’s employees move to BMW is undecided," she said. "We are still in discussions with PSA over the dismantling of the joint venture." The joint venture BPCE currently includes an R&D center in Munich and a manufacturing facility in Mulhouse, France, which employs 250 workers who are supposed to electrify around 10,000 vehicles starting from 2015. Probably the new venture with Toyota MC has something to do with this. Toyota is a giant when it comes to electric vehicles (i.e. Prius). It will be a lot easy to adopt a lot of the technology that's already working and tailor it to suit the BMW cars. Maybe the facility in France and the resources will be used to tailor Toyota technology for BMW cars. This is just a thought.

BMW on their own to develop hybrid
BMW was in joint venture with PSA Peugeot Cintroën to develop a high performance hybrid unlike the current models from Japan ... and guess what???? The PSA group is about to go belly up, decided to implement draconian measurement to cut costs by initiating massive lay offs. The French auto union workers retaliated with a déclaration de guerre against the PSA Auto Group. Ironically Peugeot has a gorgeous line of smaller models very conducive for hybrid application... I applaud the wise decision of BMW Group to pull out of the deal and develop the high performance hybrid vehicles on their own. I just hope the BMW hybrid can quality for the Clean Vehicle Program's GREEN PASS so that us folks in the greater NY metropolitan area can enjoy discounted non-peak tolls at any of the tunnel/bridge crossings.
