Y-Cable Final Answer - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

I've got a response to the y-cable saga for everyone. The BMW Assist is the driver on whether or not the apple cable works or not. If you have BMW Assist, it works. No BMW Assist, then Y cable required.

The VDC (not the dealer) is supposed to put the y-cable with the manuals. If its not there, then it was a mistake. Thats why some people are seeing them and some not.

As far as Euro Delivery is concerned, it appears the VDC isn't putting them in the cars because Euro Delivery folks take the manuals with them!

So, for the record, the Y-Cable is supposed to come standard!!!

FWIIW, when I test drove a car, I was told the cable was separate, then the dealer was surprised when we found the Y cable in the glove box. Therefore, to me what you are saying makes sense.

My car came with the cable, my dealer said some cars come through with them and some not.

I still have the Y-Cable from my 2008 coupe in its plastic bag

My car did NOT come with a Y-cable, and the salesman acted like he was doing me a huge favor by giving me one. (For the record, I didn't ask for it, but he made a big show of telling me how he threw it in for me.)

Haha. What theatrics.

My salesman thought y-cables were a thing of the past and was convinced that a white iPod cable would work. When the white iPod cable didn't work, he just walked over to one of their returned lease cars and swiped it from that car. it was brand new still in the plastic. He explained that all these old folks who lease their 5 and 7 series have no idea what the y-cable is and just return the leased cars with the y-cable unopened. Later that day, I discovered the one in my glovebox.
