2014 BMW 4 Series (F32) Testing Moves Onto the Ring [Updated with Video]

COMMENTS

We've just spied today the 2014 F32 4 Series Coupe hitting the Nürburgring for the first time. Set to debut in Autumn 2013, the new F32 4 series coupe will combine an evolutionary progress from the current E92 3 series coupe with some new styling cues found in the F30 3 series Sedan and F31 3 series Touring.

The general shape is sportier and sleeker than the F30 while the nose/front end design sits just as low (also check out these renders). Also adding to the sporty touch is a small bootlid spoiler you can see in the last photo. Remember: this prototype still wears heavy camouflage, especially at the front and rears, and the actual production lights are still entirely covered/hidden.

In case you haven't followed previous news and are surprised about the 4 series moniker, BMW is likely set to split up the 3 series lineup -- the sedan, touring and GT models will retain the 3 series badge, while the coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe models will be newly designated as 4 series. The jury is still out if this will hold true for the M3 models as well, but BMW's tradition is to name its M models after the production series on which they are based.

The 4 series Coupe will be powered by the same or similar engines as the F30 and F31, namely 2.0L twin-turbo inline 4 and 3.0L twin-turbo inline 6 petrol engines. Both engines will be available with either a manual transmission or the fabulous 8-speed automatic, and both should also be available with xDrive. Maybe (but only maybe), the 4 series models will get a slight power bump over the current engines producing 240hp and 300hp, respectively. There have also been rumors that perhaps the F32's introduction will be an occasion for BMW to introduce a successor engine to the current 6-cyl N55 engine powering the F30, but that's purely rumor for now.

Stay up to date on all news on the F32 4 Series Coupe.

I like new roofline and how goes it goes into back. I hope it will soon loose some camouflage, because I want to see my next car

That's not the first Mustang comment I've seen thrown at the F32. I'm not seeing it at all. If anything, that camo makes it look like an A7.

Love the paint job, but I wonder why the license plates are blacked out.

i seriously hate how it's being called "4 series." is that even definite yet?

i'm going to be upset if it really is called that.

i'll switch to porsche at that point.

maybe that's a little harsh.. but i will be angry

Looks like a staggered setup, I thought that went away with the new 3er?

The car will be great, whatever the name is.

I agree. Looks like a Mustang and a Holden Monaro had a love child. There is way too much back end on this car. Maybe the lines will look better when the camo comes off, but the e92 is a very hard act to follow - that was a truly gorgeous coupe.

Yup, it's gonna look real good...

and please dont be a poser like the A5,
(the A5 is a real looker!!! i love it, but BMW is not Audi, and i am sure that BMW is not copying Audi)

Rest reassured my friends, the F32 will be BEAUTIFUL AND MEAN LOOKIN!

yep, it's got the mustang look...ugh. Hopefully it will look different once the camo's gone. I agree the 4 seriers naming - doesn't sound right at all.

+1

e92 is one of the best looking beamers ever in my opinion

Those of you who think it looks like a Mustang, must also think a beach ball and the sun look alike cause they are both round.

Other than being a coupe, it looks nothing like a Mustang.

I think the rear end is too long, and the front overhand on both this coupe and the sedan should have been shorter. That's the one trait that I love on BWM's.
Even since the growth program at BMW, even the ends have grown longer beyond the wheels center line.
