I guess bad news for those who were aiming for the 2013 version but good news for those who got the 2012 F30 already.

I have a BMW 650i 2008, and obviously there is immense differences between the this iDrive software and the one I have now. Is there anyway that you can upgrade your iDrive? Do you need to install new hardware? Has anyone done this before? How much would it most likely be? Who would I contact for this kind of a job?

It might be north america only, but I'd say it's confirmed as apparently people from BMW corporate shared this at the M6 event with people who asked.

Also, this really really sucks, because I'm reasonably sure that the F31 will come out with the new nav (even in the US) and the F30s will then start to get it also.

I was planning on an October European delivery, now, not so sure.

You can't upgrade to it, it's new hardware, including, apparently, a completely new Nvidia based graphics unit and other new bits and pieces.

As of now, officially the only 2013 models announced to get this in the US (starting July production) are the 7 series, 5 series, 5 series GT, and ActiveHybrid 3 (which actually starts production after July).

Whether the F30 3 series gets the new NAV (Navigation Professional) sometime later during the 2013 model year remains to be seen.

Talked about this today when I (pre)ordered my car.
The F30 changes to MY2013 in november, pretty much all other models are changing in july. So they said (guessed) no new navi on F30 until november builds.

It's even more complicated. The F30 changes to MY2013 in July but there'll be a couple of new engines/models in November (e.g. Active Hybrid 3) so you might be right regarding the new nav.

I know that sales persons is not always the best knowing people in the world. But they said that the F30 will be called MY2012 until november. But the other cars will change MY now in july. So many different views on this. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

There are quite some changes coming in July too (M Sport, xDrive, Individual options) so I guess BMW NA got it right when they call it a 2013 as of July production.

Are we talking about cars delivered in november or built in november? I really have a hard time to decide if I should wait for the november release... (I get the 328i Xdrive in August)

Is the navi really so much better? Will other features change in november?

I was told that cars built from november on should be MY2013 (F30 only, and here in Sweden that is. The US might be different)

It used to be September of each year (BMW make changes twice a yr, March & September), but from 2012 they've moved the MY changeover point to July for most plants apart from Rosslyn. Rosslyn will switch to MY2013 from August production onwards. (As per E90Fleet)

The nav unit for PRC is PRC-specific, so it'll have a high chance of not changing for now.

I know, but my sales person told me yesterday when I ordered the car that all models except the F30 will change in july, and that the F30 will change in November. No one knew why but that was the latest info that BMW gave them. I asked them because I wanted a MY2013. The computer still stated it as a 2012 even though it was a M-sport with an August build date.

Edit: I'm not saying you are wrong, no one would be happier than me if I get a '13. But not much points towards it at the moment more than E90fleets post.

This information must be tough to get at right now. I asked my CA to try to sniff this out for me with his area rep and other BMW corporate contacts, because I would be disappointed to order a "2013" car now and then find out that if I had just waited another few short months I would get the new navigation and i-drive system, which for me, would be of value.

I have still not heard back from him, and he's always punctual with this stuff, so it must be very hard to get correct information.

You can be sure that at the very least, the first batch (July production) of 2013 model year F30 3 series won't have the new navigation professional system. Whether it gets added via an equipment change sometime during the 2013 model year is something BMW isn't disclosing to us right now.

What we can gleam from the information they have announced so far though is that the Activehybrid 3 will get the new navigation professional system. And the Activehybrid 3 starts production in November. So it's definitely possible that 2013 F30 3 series as of November production may get it as well.
