US F30 M Sport models will get Euro Brake Pads
Confirmed:
US M Sport models will not get the regular low dust, less bite US brake pads but will be fitted with Euro spec pads on the standard rotors. US cars with the optional M Sport brakes fitted models will also receive the same Euro pads as their European counterparts.

M Sport pack does not change the rotor with standard brakes.
Optional M Sport brakes will get a solid rotor (unlike what some initial info said, but confirmed at motor shows and latest documents). The slotted/partially drilled rotor from the M Performance retrofit kit is available from the dealer for retrofit ( Also in standard sizes). With M Sport brakes US and Euro 335i and Euro 328i get the same solid M Sport rotors (370x30). With M Sport brakes US 328i get the standard US/Euro 335i rotor and standard 335i calipers, but painted blue, fitted with Euro pads (340x30).

what i am goign to have to figure out is if getting the M sport brakes pkg + M Perf drilled rotors will be less or more than not getting M sport brakes pkg and just going with the entire M Performance brake pkg.

The brakes on my M Sport are definitely not what I would call low dust. I've only had my car for 3 days and the wheels are already filthy!

I missed this originally.
Interesting. I wonder how they'll feel? My last test drive was at the drive event with a 335i sport line. Wonder if I'll feel anything different. Day one when I get my Msport is to do a bedding session on the way home. Must be done. ![]() Don't forget to bed the new brakes for all new 3's. |

One of many descriptions of brake pad bedding: http://zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm
It is amusing with some aggressive race pads as they smoke when first truly heated. Take the advice not to use greater speeds seriously. The F30 is a street car with street car brake cooling. It is quite easy to melt piston seals, etc. |

Elks link shows a good procedure.
Here is another one: http://www.american-performance-auto...procedure.html The idea is the same though some show different speeds, number of times, etc... I use a method closer to the link Elk posted. And, as Elk said, DON'T heat them to the point of smoking. I start with the low speed method and progress to higher speeds, then a decent length highway speed drive to let things cool nicely without applying the brakes hard I wonder if the Msport cars will get something in the manual telling us about the different pads, along with BMW's bedding recommendation. |
