N20 global shortage!

As some of you may have noticed, my 328i is expected to be delayed due to huge demand. The factory can keep up with making the car itself but I've found out there are a lack of 28i N20 motors because they are more popular than anticipated! My dealer says this is a global shortage so all orders for 328i's will be affected, as they have no engine to put in it!! He is trying his best to get me back on the scheduled date as my 330d goes on the 28th May, 2 days after I was supposed to pick up my 328i, so he will keep me updated, but looking most likely there will be a delay to the 14/06 time. I'll keep you updated too! Anyone else with 328i delays?

I blame Fisker! Their new "Atlantic" is using the N20 in 28i trim to charge the EV batteries!! :P

Sounds more like your dealer sold your 328i slot from under you.

Really? Is that what you reckon? I have almost £8k of optional extras on it!! They should be rubbing their hands at the margin they will make. Hmm, interesting...
Although I drive a hard bargain, as well as a 330d!

Don't think so. ActiveHybrid 5 (F10) uses N55 35i and the F30's they are using are all N47 powered 320ed's (Efficient Dynamics). 7 Series will be using N57 30d. Mind you, the N20 isn't available in any F01 variant. Nope, don't believe any N20 variations are being used in the London Olympics...

If you are dissatisfied with the dealer just check out some other dealer and explain to them your concerns with your current dealer and see if they can source you the same car earlier and even cheaper. They will definitely price match at the bare minimum

I'm hugely satisfied with the dealer and they have just been awarded best BMW UK dealership! They're absoloutely fantastic but I will be investigating this episode based on what people are saying here...
The car has been on order since late February and I said I don't want it till 26th March 'cos my 330d lease ends on the 28th. What annoys me is that they have had all this time to fanny about and only now (49 days away from 26th March) am I told it could be delayed! Ugh, he needs to confirm it yet but wants to be honest with us which is good of him. I hope it is a genuine N20 shortage and not just my ordering being shafted. Meh, time will tell!

Ah so you ordered in March... I've been told from numerous dealers that deliveries times would be roughly 2 months on average..

In Belgium we're being quoted 4 months now...
So ordering now, would mean delivery early August.

Does every new BMW in Europe have to be ordered? There are none on the lots? I can walk into any BMW dealer here in the USA and have at least 4 N20s to choose from immediately. I was at a dealership yesterday that probably had 10 to choose from.

The US is only the biggest market by country - the EU is a much bigger market by, well, market (it being a single market and all).

That's too bad. I could have chosen any line, any color and essentially any package options and probably even haggled the price a little. If they didn't have one that I liked, they could have probably pulled one from another dealer and have anything I wanted within probably a week.

The dealerships around here have plenty to chose from but they are mostly maxxed out options, 46-50k price tags.

Im looking at buying a stripped down Sport model with the only options the variable steering, the paddle shifters, and the adjustable M suspension. There is nothing close to that anywhere around here, my local dealer did an inventory search.

So I will be ordering, after I do that Drive for USA thing and get my 1000$ certificate.
