The 2012 Auto China show is coming in under 3 weeks and BMW has just revealed the 3 Series Long Wheelbase Sedan ahead of its debut at the upcoming show. These models will be for the Chinese market only.

Quote:
World premiere – the new BMW 3 Series sedan in the long wheelbase version.

Developed at BMW head office in Germany, it will be rolling off the production line in the new Shenyang production plant and celebrating its world premiere at Auto China 2012 in Beijing – the new BMW 3 Series sedan in the long wheelbase version.

With its wheelbase extended by 11 cm, a conspicuously elegant design, and the best rear seat travel comfort among the competition, this new model fulfils precisely the expectations of Chinese automobile customers. They can choose from the BMW 335Li, the BMW 328Li, or the BMW 320Li, each fitted with a powerful and efficient engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology. Also presented at Auto China will be the new BMW 3 Series sedan with the normal wheelbase and the full hybrid model BMW ActiveHybrid 3.

Which is why Lexus exists.

Buying a BMW to sit in the backseat and not drive is like buying a sport bike for crosscountry touring.

BLECH! The modified Hofmeister Kink is both unnecessary, and offensive.

5 series is a shorter 7 series, since when does a 3 series have double A-arms on their front suspension?

Ya must be tough selling in a market that even 60 years later is still convinced that Buick is the pinnacle of automotive achievement. (if you dont know Buick is considered the best and most impressive car to drive in china, on level with driving a bentley in America)

Subtle refinements to cater to this "market" are absolutely stupid. But on the other hand.....how fitting.

For those that don't know, they create Li version specially for China is for one reason only, "hierarchy". If your boss drives a 5 series. You can't be seen in the same car. Hence 3 Li. Just like they created the 5 Li for those whose boss drives a 7 series.
