Alternatives to runflats
Just picked up an F30 335i sport. Loving the car, going to be hard keeping it under 4500 rpm for long. Already got pulled over for speeding and female officer let me off cause i apologized and she liked the car (melbourne red).
Not loving the Pirelli Cinturato P7 18" run flats. This is my first Bimmer, and was thinking of putting on Pilot Sports same sizing as my OEM 18" on the same rims. Did this tire work well on the e90? Will it effect the TPMS? Any ideas? |

I love my Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires (not run-flat), but amazing on the E92.

I have used PS2s before and they were great. The PSSs should be even better. I had RE-11s previously and thought they were just tremendous.
I do agree with Tremelo though. Some more tire would be great. |

I also really like the the new 18 sport line rims. I'll post pictures soon, but they look great. No interest in any run flats either. Newbie question but could I get a bit wider tire on the Sport line 18 rim? |

I didn't know u could fit wider than 225s on the stock 18 sport lines... Thats what I was referring to.

Personally, I'll stick with run flat tires, as there doesn't seem to be a large detriment in performance or comfort any longer vs non-run flat tires, and I don't want to haul around a spare. I am probably going to go with a summer performance tire like the Pirelli P Zero (when they release the 225/45R18), but I'll still use the run flat version and keep my Pirelli P7 Cinturato All Season for the cold part of the year (we don't really have much of a winter here in Dallas).

I'm not an expert on fitting tires and I'm new to RFTs, but rim widths do not dictate a single tire width size. The width of a rim can fit a range of tire widths. My personal feeling is that BMW went with a thinner tire to promote better MPG. If you do change the width of your tires, I think you shouldn't stagger them since the wheels aren't staggered. Keep them all the same width whatever you go with. Hope this helps.

you can probably get a 235 on the stock rims, tho if you got the tire insurance you probably have to get the same tires...

Should this work?
Continental Extreme Contact DW 235/40ZR18 95Y on the 397 BMW rim. About $700 at Tire rack. I do not have the Bmw tire insurance, and I live 4 hours north of Toronto. So I need a proper "SNOW" tires anyway come winter. No need for all seasons for me. What do you guys think? |
