Pure speculation at this point, no one from BMW has said anything pointing in that direction. VW and Honda have shown interest in new rules package.

FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

The FIA is the governing body of motor sport and therefore of Formula One. As such, it sets the season’s calendars following the proposal of the Commercial Rights Holder (CRH) in accordance with the local national authorities in all matters relating to safety.

Within that context, the FIA ensures that any event forming part of an FIA World Championship is organised in compliance with the FIA Statutes and the relevant Sporting and Technical Regulations and that the safety of the public, officials, drivers and teams is secured at all times during an event.

The FIA must make rational decisions based on the information provided to us by the Bahraini authorities and by the Commercial Rights Holder. In addition we have endeavoured to assess the ongoing situation in Bahrain.

President Jean Todt led a fact-finding mission to the Kingdom in November 2011, meeting a large number of decision-makers and opinion formers, including elected Shia members of parliament, the president of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, ambassadors from the European Union countries, the Crown Prince, the Interior Minister and many members of the business community.

All expressed their wish for the Grand Prix to go ahead in 2012, and since then, the FIA has kept in close touch with all these stakeholders. Away from the public eye, the FIA has received regular security briefings from the most senior diplomatic officials based in the Kingdom as well as from other independent experts.

The 2012 calendar, as presented by the CRH, was ratified by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in September 2011. Since then no request from the F1 Commission or the CRH has been made to the WMSC to either postpone or cancel the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Based on the current information the FIA has at this stage, it is satisfied that all the proper security measures are in place for the running of a Formula One World Championship event in Bahrain.

Therefore, the FIA confirms that the 2012 Gulf Air F1 Grand Prix of Bahrain will go ahead as scheduled.

Sebastian Vettel's 2012 struggle looks set to continue for now.
It has emerged that, despite the reigning back-to-back champion preferring the launch version of the RB8, Red Bull has decided that Vettel will drive the latest specification of the car's exhaust layout in Bahrain this weekend.

In China, the team allowed Vettel to go back to the previous spec, while Mark Webber qualified better and finished higher with Adrian Newey's latest developments.
"He can't get the confidence he needs with the car," admitted Dr Helmut Marko on Austrian Servus TV, "and this makes him make uncharacteristic mistakes."
Nonetheless, Red Bull has decided that the 'Webber-specification' exhaust is the right way forward.
"We will go on with the Mark Webber car," Marko confirmed.
As for why the team's Australian driver feels more comfortable in the updated car, Marko surmised: "Mark is less sensitive to the (car's) behaviour.
"He just needs four wheels, but it's different for Vettel," he said.

LOL. Thanks for your laughable insight. It would explain why you delete half your own posts here.

Vettel is more in tune w/his car than the majority of drivers. He plays an active part of the development of his car, so yeah... he's more sensitive to any changes. Not being happy w/the way it's performing or having issues with particular items he's having trouble getting adjusted to (new exhaust)... is not a guy who is 'all car'.

I, for one, absolutely agree with Schumacher. Formula 1 used to be an all-out sprint, where drivers pushed their cars to the maximum lap after lap, for an entire grand prix distance. Now, even though the races are entertaining, they aren't as 'rewarding' in the sense that drivers spend 90% of the race conserving their tires. It just feels like this current format really punishes people with raw speed and talent at driving on the limit in favor of people who are good at managing their car.

One proposal on that link was to come up with a very hard compound, and barring any punctures, make the tire capable of going more than the race distance. I'd love the idea of seeing pit stops eliminated, turning the grand prix into an all-out sprint. This is probably too controversial for most fans, though.

Thoughts, anyone?
