You really seem to have it in for the N20. You have something negative to say in every thread I read about it. You really don't have to prove anything, the 335i is a great car with a great engine. I'm sure you'll enjoy it everyday as you race up to 120 km

LOL, I read your sarcasm.

No worries, I don't know you, you don't know me. And I didn't ask my grandpa's bicycle back, did I?

I just want to level out a few things about the N20. It's just a 4 potter. I don't want a four potter unless it's an Mitsu EVO, RS200 or 205 T16. Not in a 3 series BMW.

This was a simple review of the engines, their weight, and their placement in the new chassis layout. Has zero to do with being green.

Finally, someone got my sarcasm

You know its funny that you say that about a 4 cylinder in a 3 series BMW. My first experience with a BMW was about 20 yrs ago, the experience that actually hooked me on the brand, was in a US spec 4 cylinder 318i coupe:

Seems like BMW and I have came full circle

BMW Marketing. They want us to buy the 328 and not so the 335i. It's cheaper better MPG(that we already knew) but it's almost as fast(maybe) and has a tad better handling(here the marketing comes in sort of) . The fact carmags/journalist(bribed) find the 328 in a way a better car means:Voila the 328 is going to sell better than the way too(exaggerating a bit) expensive 335.

BMW selling more of those greener 328s and less 335s is better in the long run, environementally/politically and governmentally, BMW is thinking into the future, the future is: Small(er) powerful better MPG 'green'engines:N20 =winner, the N55 loser.

Believe that if you want.

Oh and the 335i is green as well.

The car I saw last night in LA was almost 50k. That is a lot for a 328i...

For the first time, an entry level 3 is impressive. This is something I'll definitely test-drive, and maybe even consider if I replace my 335 with another 3.

gotta pay to play...also you dont really need all those options. and any other comparable car with those kind of options would cost similar

Being a regular track guy, understanding that the new 328i pulls similar lap times to a 335i isn’t a surprise.

Most people judge a car’s performance 0-60, ¼ mile, etc, in which I think it’s obvious the 335i is the top choice. On a racetrack however, a huge misconception is that power = lap times. On a track like Laguna Seca, (Lime Rock Park, NHMS, etc.) one that doesn’t rely heavily on top end, you will often see lower powered, better balanced cars placing higher than higher powered cars simply because there is no place to put that power down.

Another thing that’s not a surprise is that they say it’s a better car to drive.

Most people aren’t privy to what it takes to negotiate a car around a race track at a car’s limit; I believe this is the context in which they are making this notion. It took me tons of track events to develop an “unconscious competence” behind the wheel, and unless you’re Mario Andretti Jr. the 2nd, you will be awful, awful the first time out on a track (as I was). The difference between a more balanced car and a more powerful car, especially on a tight road course, the balanced will always win. This is why E36 M3’s still dominate the track scene 

This would definitely make an F30 purchase interesting.

I bet BMW has something cool up its sleeve for the F32 335 (435). If it were me, I would hold off a year or so on the buy until we learn about the I6 they will deliver in that car.

I'd better wait for the german carmags to try it on the Nordschleife. It should do better than 8:26 BTG(E92 335i back in 2007 as I recall) I guess the 328 can do a8:26 just like the former E92 335i N54. Just a guess.

That is a big power track. There is no way.

Laguna Seca is a lot different.

So is Zandvoort etc.

But I agree.

Still the Nordschleife laptime somewhat defines a (sports)car, don't you think?

Just trying to understand your position.

You think Motor Trend and magazine tester lied in the article about driving dynamics. And the BMW's own test drivers lied as well, about getting near identical lap times around Laguna Seca.

BMW must have paid off a lot of people.
