What? No six cylinder diesels planned for F30???

According to the latest issue of EVO magazine, there are no plans to put any six banger diesels into the car. No more 335d, no more 330d...
The magnitude of such step would be unprecedented. I am not even sure I read that correctly in EVO because I think and hope this is a big BS!!
Anyone else seen that article too?

that's weird... I'm pretty sure I read somewhere a few days ago that the diesel lineup is going to be 320d, 325d, 330d and 335d...

Not in the US...we will prob just get the 335d...tho i think the 320d might do well here.

Reportedly the 335d has not sold well in the US at all. I bet they could do much better with the smaller 320d for a better increase in fuel economy.

yep, forgot about you guys in the US... however, I do distinctly remember reading somewhere (a link was posted here, don't know which thread) about BMW bringing the 320d to the US, and considering the same with the 520d and the X3 2.0d...

Yea, the 335 just does not make economical sense, unless you have to have a diesel. The 320D sounds like a fun litte car. Bmw should introduce it here for 32K...would sell like hot cakes.

The 320d with the BMW Power Kit installed currently makes 200hp and no increase in fuel consumption. I wouldn't be surprised if BMW would introduce a 200hp/420Nm 2.0 liter diesel to the US. It would really make sense, unlike the 335d.

have read several musing that go something like "with the 3 hybrid coming to the US already, that's our fuel economy leader and why bother with the 320d there". Of course, that's speculation only and we won't know until sometime next year when BMWNA deems it appropriate.

I would love to see an F30 BMW 325d here...

It's 245 hp/384 ft lb. This is their most powerful I4 Diesel engine yet. With automatic start-stop, 8 speed automatic, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Real Time Traffic/Sat-Nav, this would be an excellent commuter's car. I could leave my V10 M5 home for the weekends. :-)

That being said, if BMW really wants to show the US how competitive Diesel is to gasoline (like Audi has at LeMans), then give us the full 300+ hp 335d as well, with an 8 speed automatic and all other ED tweaks BMW has to offer. This car could easily outperform both a 335i in speed and a 328i in fuel consumption. But that would make too much sense (like offering us a 335iT instead of a 535i GT)...

this can't be right when the F10 525d has 218 hp / 450Nm (i believe that's around 332 ft lbs) - those numbers would be just to close to the I6 30d and i don't see BMW doing so... if, however, it were so, that would be great (as i am already considering the F30 325xd as my next car )

Not sure, BMW would know if the market exists for an engine like the 320i. Personally I don't see why they would need to have both.

If I'm the type of person that buys a 320d, I'm not the type of person that cares much for a quicker car.

True, true, but you know that only we care about stuff like that. Take Bob "Wal-Mart Wolverine" Jenkins down the street, and he'll simply disagree because it's "European" and not a gas-gussler.

More applicable is that BMW would have to drop the price by at least 5000 dollars.

Yes. I think another forum overestimated those figures that I grabbed.

i just checked those figures - they are from the e90 330d/xd (and other 30d models from that generation)... guess someone copy/pasted the wrong numbers on that forum

There is no diesel planned for the US. The Active Hybrid 3 was designed and is being built for mainly the US market. The AH3 will give the performance of the 335 with economy better than the 328i four cylinder.

The US is now getting it's first 3 series 4 cylinder in a long while (328) no chance a 4 cylinder diesel is coming if they couldn't sell the 335d.

Diesel will remain in X5 and a future SAV variant.

A four cylinder diesel would cost way less than the Active Hybrid 3 and will have a much lower fuel consumption, probably better than a Toyota Prius. At 184-200hp and 400Nm, I can't see why it wouldn't make sense for the american buyer. But indeed, it wouldn't make sense for BMW because they would sell a lot of those and the profit wouldn't be as high as the higher-spec engines.

What you have to remember is that many are making comparisons on how VW can have diesels such as the Jetta and think BMW can do the same.
For one thing in the US it is very difficult for BMW to offer a 3er in terms of how VW position the TDi Jetta. No matter what VW will have you believe the Jetta is not a premium car, neither is VW a premium brand.

For example the US BMW Customer would not accept the standard specification of a typical BMW 320d in all it's basic glory - cloth seats , minimal equipment - that is not the US perception of a BMW and for people to say that "BMW Should do that!" and many have including journalists, it is just not feasible.

A four cylinder diesel will come to the US Market but will be in the X1 SAV.
The next Diesel introduction will be the X3 , but do not hope for 535d and 335d as the lukewarm reaction to the 335d shows that BMW diesel in the US market works for SAV's , less so for core sedans.

In europe , the Geneva show in March will see the 330d and 335d added to the range along with xDrive.
