He was doing some pretty sub-par hitting recently to say the least... then hits a home run for his 3,000th hit and goes 4-4 in the same game - like a boss. I think I'll drive over to his new Best Buy, I mean house, to celebrate.

Same here dude. When I saw it live, it kinda reminded me of this: it's game 7 of the ALCS against your arch rival, you're down most of the game, epic 3-run comeback in the 8th against pedro martinez, now it's the bottom of the 11th... *chills down my spine*

Pure class.

Fan returns 3,000th hit to Jeter, team rewards his generosity

As a 23-year-old cell phone salesman, Christian Lopez had thousands of reasons to hold out for the highest bidder on the baseball from Derek Jeter's(notes) 3,000th hit. In fact, some estimates put the ball's worth at $250,000, money that the recent graduate from St. Lawrence University could have certainly used.

And yet when New York Yankees officials found Lopez after he corralled Jeter's historic home run, the only thing that the big Yankees fan wanted was to return the ball to the man who had hit it.

Yes, Lopez was willing to just give away what seemed like a sure lottery ticket

"No, not really," Lopez said when Yankees announcer Michael Kay later asked him if he asked for anything in return. "He deserves this, he's worked hard for this ... I'm not the type of person to take this away from him."

That's a pretty nice gesture, no doubt. But lest you think the Yankees were just going to take the ball away without any compensation, they rewarded Lopez's generosity with a pretty nice package. According to Kay, Lopez will receive four tickets to a suite for every remaining game at Yankee Stadium this season (including any possible playoff games) plus first row Legends Suite tickets to Sunday's game. He will also receive an assortment of bats and jerseys, plus the opportunity to meet Jeter.

not a Yankee fan, never thought much of Aaron Boone either, I remember that game though like it was yesterday, before I even watched it I remembered it was Wakefield pitching.

I think the Jeter 3k is better than Bonds' 715 HR because he earned it, played for one of the most dominant teams in the league without any type of help other than hard work.

I hope he retires though, he is starting to slack in the numbers, and their new SS is young and very good.

I'm sorry but that fan is an idiot. Jeter is the only Yankee in history to have 3000 hits. Some rich New Yorker would of went crazy with the bidding.

Don't think that would be a wise decision, would make a media uproar and the whole city of New York would be looking for your place to rob you, because it is the only Yankee to hit 3000. I'm sure a couple of Mobsters would't mind "taking care of you" for that ball.

And here comes the immature name calling. LOL. You and that fan must not be business majors, no business sense whatsoever.
