That may be the way to go. The submission thread should be images only. No discussion, no examples. That way you could open a poll thread and not include the images. Just the image title. People could open the image thread beside the poll thread.

So future contests would have three threads: Images, Discussion\Comments, and Voting.

Well, putting together the voting poll really just requires a little practice. Anyone that's done it once could put together a big poll. Unfortunately, most of us don't get a ton of practice and putting the poll together only happens a couple of times per year. Splitting things up further would probably just add to the confusion. Besides, when will you ever know if the contest is going to be big or small? We've had quite a contrast in entries among the last few contests.

A note to future contest organizers, it does take a little bit of planning and organization to put it all together. Thinking you're going to just throw it together could be a mistake, unless it's a small contest. You need to organize files with a number, name and image for each entry and keep them in order so that you don't lose track of where you are as you paste info into the Thread Manager. I actually set up a Set in my Flickr account that only I can see. I put the entries in there in order and use a Flickr tool that gives me BBCode to post here. I open Flickr in one browser page and this site in another and put them side by side, so I can easily move from one image to the next. Flickr accounts are free, but Image Shack and some of the other imaging sites have similar aids.

^^^If everyone was using Flickr it would be a much simpler process for sure. Flickr was my greatest discovery this year (besides finally learning the Exposure triangle )

Mine is labeled "Closer look at the rules" in the poll, however I labeled it "White Rose" in my submission, no biggie though. My question is, why is there a link for my pic instead of a pic? Is there a different way I should have loaded it onto the website?

feels rigged a bit now not saying that there's a clear winner. but that there are 4 people at 11 votes each when one was leading nicely, now suddenly 3 others have caught up... I like all the tied shots lots, but i'm just surprised there's a tie going on at the moment after the way the voting started.


That being said, I recognize almost all the names in the votes.

This is why I hate the idea of being able to view everyone else's votes before you vote. I'm not saying this is what happened here, because the top photos were all excellent, but in theory one can easily be swayed by seeing all the vote counts ahead of time.

I think that the poll can be set up so that viewers can't see the vote until they vote. Let's remember that in the future.
