Smile F30 3-series above Malibu caught by Ferrari 458

Edit:
More recent F30 spy photos: http://www.bimmerpost.com/3-series/spyshots/

My friend and I went for a drive last Friday in his 458 Italia in the hills above Malibu. We came across what appears to be an F30 (335i?) prototype and decided to give chase to snap some photos. The test drivers picked up the pace and we were able to get some shots of the F30 in action in the canyons. Good fun.

Where are those nice orange tapes on side mirrors that are on all pics we have seen so far? Somebody ran out of orange tape and used black instead?

EXACTLY what I was wondering... Are these the first shots of CSL style rims on the new F 30???

Maybe these are the new sport pkg rims for the 335/US market???

I can't recall seeing these rims on a prototype F 30 before...I wonder if they are 18's or 19's.

They look pretty big, but the sidewall also looks big as well. I know in some of the other spy shots people noticed that the overall tire diameter was bigger in the new car so there's a decent chance those are 19's

at the BMW driver picking up the pace. Does he really think he could outrun or get away from a 458. The 458 was probably barely being worked.

Yes, following the F30 was actually a nice break in the afternoon, slowing down the pace :-) The 458 is silly fast--an amazing car even by supercar standards. It makes my M3 feel very pedestrian. We could basically get any angle we wanted on the F30 because we could place the 458 anywhere relative to our target.

Just going off of gut instinct, I would say 18s. That design doesn't do much for me either.
