Best Image Size for Posting?

I have a 6 megapixel digital camera and when I reduce the size of the image for posting, the quality degrades considerably. Is there a better way to reduce the image size that I'm not aware of or do I need to set my camera to take pics at a smaller resolution?
Thanks.

What program are you using? You may need a better photo editing program like Photoshop.

I'm using Paint Shop Pro. Since I posted, I have been researching this a bit and When I was resizing, I might have been trying to get to a reduced size by resizing an image that had already been reduced, instead of resizing from the original image. I have also discovered the 'preview in web browser' function which gives me a little more control over how the image will appear.
Any other pointers would be appreciated.

Hmm, well I've never used that program but sounds like you're getting some good info. Sorry I can't be of any more help. I'm sure someone in here is familiar with Pant Shop.
