This car hardly competes with R8 and SLS. Audi is about to leave production by 2013 and SLS plays completely in different category. Also, what's common in R8V10 and M100 ideology? Not very much. It's like comparing Muchielago SV670 and M3 GTS just because they run Ring equally fast.

I'd say that M100 plays in the same game with 918 Spyder and perhaps other eco-sportcars that may arise from other manufacturers within 2-3 years. Porsche is much higher priced than M100, so BMW may after all come to market without serious competitors.

I 've already read the article, so here some more specs from it.

The car have a code name 442 and will be part of the so called "Project-i" family. The first car that will come from this project is the already confirmed electric Mega-City-Vehicle(imagine the size Mini or Smart with BMW badge). This project aims to build nature-friendly cars, powered by trendy electro-motors and hybrid solutions. These cars are supposed to be revolutionary step in car manufacturing. The chasis will be made by aluminium and the body frame will consist almost entirely from carbon fiber. That means that these cars will be quite lighter from all their currently available peers. The sports car was approved from BMW to show the public the other boundaries of this project. The so called "i-100" will be a direct derivative of the Efficient Dynamics Coupe prototype.

The engine of all the cars from this family, including the current sports car, will be mounted in the back. Although it gives a hint of a mid-mounted one like Ferrari, Lamborghini and etc. it's actually not. According to BMW this will offer more room and will have 4-seats instead of the typical 2 seats in this segment. The engine in the "i-100" will be 1,5 L, 3-cylinder turbo, which will deliver around 160-180 HP. It will be further boosted by 2 electro engines, which will deliver additional 100 HP. DCT will also be a standard. There are current discusions going on in BMW, whether to offer the US-spec car with a 4-cylinder engine. The car is supposed to consume around 3 liters per 100 km. The price will be placed at around 100.000 Euros.

Here is perhaps the most interessting part. There will also be a M-Version. It will be powered by the engine from the next M3, an I6 3.0 L turbo, capable of delivering around 450 HS. The car will also be equipped with supper fast electric caps, which will store energy when the car is braking. Then stored energy could be then delivered very fast to the electro motors, to create somekind of a temporal boost. If you are a fan of the formula one, think of the last year's KERS-system. The car will cost around 170.000 Euros.

So don't interpret directly the numbers, but see the line, where is written, the car will be made from carbon fiber. You get the point! Imagine a 1100-1200 kg with 450 HS I6 turbo with additional 100 HS more from elector engines. If this thing comes out with similar figures it will blow out the peers. And we haven't mentioned the fuel consumption yet! This will be a revolutionary sports car from whatever angle you look at it. So BMW can become the benchmark even in this sector! I say

The I3 engine is mounted tranversely, how will BMW fit an I6? IT is just NOT possible. There have to be 4 seats and not two. The only possiblity is a V6, but BMW / M does not have any V6, yet. Taking away two cylinders from the 4.4l V8 and making it a 3.3l V6 is possible but not the best way of building a V6. The V8 is 90°, and a V6 should rather be 60°. The car that is going to get a +450 HP I6 is not the M100, M version of Vision Efficient Dynamics, but the Z Spyder Stradale. It will have its I6 engine mounted longitudinally in front. I'd say that this might be the correct situation. This kind of like platform might not be the best way to bring out a new sportcar; rather pull out every bit of publicity of "eco-sportcar" with 80 g/km CO2 emissions without bringing M-version to spoil the product line? F32 M3 emits more than 200g/km what will not be a proud figure for "ordinary" car on 2013 - still good for 450 hp engine.

Anyway, 1100-1200 kg car with 300-450 hp engine sounds good. The article is obviously partly true, partly false. GK is well-informed, but sometimes fills his articles with speculations. Having personally worked with SLS on track and seen it's capabilities, this kind of like lightweight sportcar could'n be far from SLS concept and is nowhere near to compete with MB gullwing.

Well, I am not expressing my opinion here, I have just quoted the magazine, in order to translate part of the article for the non-german speakers here. Autobild is, correct if I am wrong, the world's biggest auto magazine and most of the information, which they post, very often comes out to be true. So according to the article, which quote technicians from BMW, the I6 turbo "should fit in the corbon body". Nowhere in the article is specified, how exactly, but in the context of i-100 it should be also rear-mounted. That of course does not exclude the fact, that the M-100 can have a little bit modified chassis, but nevertheless should pack the inliner in the back. I am not an engineer and can't say whether this is possible or not, but until someone gives here a robust argument, why it can't, I will accept this.

No need to apologize. Levi missed an important part of the Autobild article you translated. The VED Concept car had a mid-engine layout which indeed only allows for an inline 3 if they want to keep it as a 4-seater. But -- as Autobild claims -- BMW chose a rear-engine layout for the production version, and that's the reason why an inline 6 would fit.

Sorry if you felt me blaming you. I did not mean to. I just wanted to correct the article. The VED or i100 is not an M car and will never get an M version. If what I heard is right, the i100 would rather be another BMW sub-brand, near M and Isetta, I think a performance car of the i-Porject sub-brand, a model besid the MCV. As about the 3.0l I6 TT with 450, it will with high certainty take place in the ZSS or Z8/Z9, instead of the 4.4l V8 TT with 600 HP, for the simple reason that BMW wants the car to be really light, 1300 kg DIN or EU.
