CA In Calif Says No Early Financing For Rebates
I've read several posts here about people who have financed their custom order purchases before their cars arrive here just to "lock in" the current rebates.
This is probably true in some states but my CA here in San Diego says it is illegal here in California. They cannot sell a car to anybody before the car is here. So this creates a dilemma for some of us whose cars might show up before 12/31 and whose cars might show up in January. It's possible the USAA and BMW rebates might be extended into January but there's a chance they might not too, right? I would hate to think that I might have to pay another $2,000 for a car whose price I thought was already locked in. |

That sounds crazy. Are you sure your CA is correct about your situation?
If what he says was completely true, then there is no way any CA customer could every do European Delivery nor Performance Center pickup. In both of those situations, you have to pay before the car "is here". I've always understood it to be, as soon as you have a VIN, you can pay for the car. |

Man...At this point I just don't know what to think. Maybe some of the you living in California can ask your CA's what the deal is because I'm confused. I don't mind waiting 3 months for the build provided I get this $2,000 I thought I already had.

So maybe you can find a cheaper loan elsewhere that would make up for the rebate.

I believe CA has pretty stringent regulations with respect to the dealer notifying the DMV of the vehicle sale within a certain number of days. I can see where the lack of a physical car and, more importantly, a certificate of origin from the manufacturer would pose a problem. |

I've read posts from people doing this. This could very well be a California thing. We have so many stupid rules here. Everybody else usually does something different from California.

Then you're CA is giving you the runaround. I was told by my CA that BMW can make an exception on the rebates if a car is ordered now and delivered in 2013. It can easily be done

I live in CA and just did ED, I paid a week before I left, and I got the title and plates in the mail when I got home. Still do not have my car here in CA. Is he trying to sell you a car they have on the lot?

ED is different. The transaction is executed prior to taking delivery in Munich. The car is registered in Germany in your name and the certificate of origin is sent to your dealer. The trick is that CO. With a standard retail order, the CO follows the car.

ianturner,
California is a beautiful state but there is LOTS of nonsense & a ton of rules that go on here. If you have a high paying job then you can put up with all of the crap but if not it can be a grind. Where are you moving? There is good and bad with all places. In general, this is a great place to hang out. |
