oh man M8 could work if the same body as i8 but m10 if completely diff, but M1 reestablished would be amazing. a v12 seems extreme/surreal so how about a v10 and throw in a pair of turbos since BMW seems so obsessed with fuel economy

I think that if BMW is to issue a legit ///M stand-alone supercar, it should use the M5's twin-turbo 4.4L V8 tweaked to at least 620ps and massively focus on weight reduction... which is not a done deal at all, I was checking the weight of the "ground-breaking" i8 concept, extensively using carbon fiber and a tiny engine - still 1480 Kg which is quite puzzling. The M10 should match the MP4-12C performance-wise.
BMW definitely has the engineering proficiency to also make an M12 hypercar using its twin-turbo 6.0L V12 at around 850ps in order to rival Ferrari and Lamborghini, but it probably wouldn't sell due to a very high selling price for a brand lacking this much prestige. edit: the more I think about it... the i8 has been built around it's drive train, using it as a base for a more conventional car would surely just end up compromising the finished product?

According to Scott, currently there is no market for 8 series coupe, but that might change in the future. So reserve 8 series name and call the future super car, M10. |

I think BMW is long overdue for a supercar... the closest I can remember would be the Z8 and well, not really super. We had the 8 series before that as well, but I would still consider it "obtainable" whereas I view supercars as unobtainable.
