Enhanced Bluetooth and USB - BMW 3-Series Forum (F30 / F32)

About to order a 335i Sport Line and have one outstanding question:

What does the Enhanced Bluetooth and USB offer over the standard Smartphone (iPhone) integration?

Can anyone elaborate?

I think standard is just Handsfree BT support and basic audio over USB.

$650 gets you the Safety Plan for 4 years + what you mentioned.
Enhanced BT is A2DP profile, stereo audio streaming over BT.
The smartphone stuff includes calendar and contacts integration and can read your texts. Check the link.

The enhanced bluetotth basically means you can stream the phone bluetooth to the car...not sure thats worth 650 when you can just plug it in

For good iPhone integration, you need BMW Assist and BMW Apps.
Kicker is that BMW Apps requires Nav/ZTP.

What exactly does BMW Apps add? The web site configurator is kind of vague in that regard. My 335i is scheduled to be done production tomorrow and I've already got ZTP and BMW Assist, but passed on Apps because it seemed like it just added some Pandora and/or Facebook functionality. I don't use Pandora and I have no inclination of facebooking while in my car (call me crazy). Does Apps include the classic iPod interface to the iDrive screen, or is that already a feature built in?

Maybe someone with newer E90 with this option can comment since the feature is not new for F30. I guess the key question is whether BMW Assist with enhanced BT/USB gives you ipod video out and iphone UI for navigating music, etc. AFAIK, that feature is not standard with basic BT & USB.

I agree w/you and have no intention of using the Apps as they are now, but the main reason I ordered it (F30 335i) is to get the 6NF snap-in phone adaptor setup. As I understand it, you cannot get the snap-in adaptor 6NF without the $250 BMW Apps. If your dealer adds BMW Apps, the 6NF option gets added at no cost. So that made it worthwhile for me.

Artwork no, detailed audio info - what do you mean? It gives artist, track info, playlists, allows you to select by artist, album, genre, etc.

Without enhanced USB you will need a BMW supplied Y-connector to work an iphone. You will not have album art. You will have control over your iphone through idrive, though the layout is a bit different.

You will not have audio bluetooth streaming.

AFAIK, above is true except need for Y-cable.
That has not been required for a while. Just need the regular USB cable.

It doesn't appear to if you don't have BMW Assist with enhanced USB. I just tried it in a 2011 and 2012 X3 and a 2012 F30 328i both with installed 6NH Bluetooth and standard USB and no Assist - the USB wouldn't work with an iphone4 and the Apple supplied cable - you get an error message. It may work for other USB devices, however.

I ordered this on my ED 335i ZSL -- but I don't use an iPhone.

BMW announced they'd have an Android app by "last fall" but I don't think it's been released yet. I ordered the BMW Apps on the theory that when the Android app ships, my HTC Sensation will work with the car.

1- I can use bluetooth for calls and address book ?
2- And at the same time I can plug my iPhone into the USB port in armrest (with the white original Apple cable) and see through all my playlists etc, is that right ?

You should be able to do all that without having to order anything, those are standard features.

Agreed. The beauty lies within the free ipod connection with the F30 and Idrive. I almost skipped the technology package because IDrive was included.

Just note that you cannot stream bluetooth audio (music) without purchasing BMW Assist with "enhanced" bluetooth.
