I didn't see your post until now. To set a button for drive mode, go to the main menu and get to the driver mode screen where it shows "sport setup". Once you're on that screen pick one of the quick access buttons, push it in and hold until it takes, that's it. If you go too far into the driver setup menu it won't allow you to use a quick store. If the screen you are on won't store, then go back one screen until it does. I love the quick access for configuring sport mode, it's much quicker to get to with the button compared to having to use the scroll wheel. I press the quick access, it goes to the "config sport" screen, I select enter, config screen comes up, and I select what I want. If you can't get it to work, I'll go through it again in my car to see if I posted the wrong procedure, and I'll take some picts too. ![]() |

That's the beauty of the design and flexibility.

(1) Nav voice on/off (good way to have it repeat directions, etc)
(2) Nav Destination 1 (3) Split Screen on/off (4) Random (BMW still does not believe its vehicles should remember the Random music setting) (5) Climate Settings (ventilation) (6) Satellite Images (7) Call 1 (8) Call 2 BTW, Day/Night mode has an automatic setting now, so less need to make it a shortcut.

For example, for sports display, from the main menu, select Vehicle Info, then scroll to "Sport display", but don't click it. Now push and hold the memory button you want to program it to. This works for most of the things you can set to the memory buttons. |

1 - Phone speed dial
2 - Phone speed dial 3 - Phone speed dial 4 - Phone speed dial 5 - FM station 6 - Sirius station (need to replace, since I just use steering wheel & presets now) 7 - Bluetooth Streaming Audio 8 - Navigate home I forgot that just touching the button (without pressing) brings up a display showing you what it's programmed to do. An excellent bit of polish that I appreciate, and a huge step up from my E46. |

This is kind of random, but I figured I'd ask here since we're talking about shortcut keys. I've programmed one of my shortcut keys to go to my radio "Presets", and it generally works fine when I press it (i.e. iDrive shows my presets). But sometimes I've noticed that even though my iDrive displays the presets, moving the scroll wheel on the steering wheel will bring up the standard Satellite channel listing in my HUD instead of my presets list. Pressing the shortcut key a second time always fixes this.
Has anyone else noticed any oddities with using the Presets as a shortcut key and the HUD? |

I hadn't realised so many things could be assigned to the programmable buttons. A question i do have though, is how do you clear one once it's been programmed so that it's empty?

You can clear all of them by pushing and holding 1 & 8 simultaneously for about 5 seconds. I don't know of anyway to clear a single button.

Prior to that, you could use the 'tuck' method which was to bring up the Presets list on the iDrive LCD screen, then push the iDrive controller to the left (push, not twist) and 'tuck' the Presets back under the source menu. Then hit "nav" or whatever you use as your default and the Presets will stay on the HUD and stick upon restart. |
