There seems to be an accepted issue around BT Audio not working if plugged in via USB which make it difficult to use 3rd party apps like Spotify...could the issues be related?
Well I just used the BT for the text and phone functions, for the music I used the USB (using 3rd party apps with no problem). So I have unable the BT streaming for the phone.

I'm curious on how are you getting the emails, I haven't had that luck.

Have you downloaded UPD01006.bin? The latest software update? If not, it may make the difference.

So, I am trying to figure out the reason you are not getting messages through bluetooth. Have to tried the jailbreak solution, i.e., BTNotificationEnabler from Cydia?

Successfully Receiving Emails

Okay, so I have succeeded in having emails show-up thru Current Office, and perhaps learned something that might help others achieve the same thing.

I just ditched my Android and got an iPhone 5. I have it setup using Bluetooth as my phone and for contacts. I also have a iTouch 4 that I use with the USB connection for Connected Drive and BMW Apps and Pandora (piggy backing on the iPhone's Hot Spot feature).

While I could get the iDrive to show the Current Office setup (which shows three icons for texts, emails and MyInfo messages), it would not receive emails or texts. Frustrated, and vaguely remembering reading something on this forum about USB interfering with the Bluetooth connection, I tried disconnecting the USB at start-up and letting the Bluetooth get fully setup first. I did a test email and it worked (again, coming across under the text category, but it was there). Then I connected the USB and let the iTouch run the BMW Connected App. It connected and I had Calendar, Facebook, Twitter, Web Radio, etc. Then I sent another test email, and it came thru on iDrive!

So, I hope others try this and see if the Bluetooth, then USB, sequence is the key to getting it all run at the same time.

That is good news, but is that without having to shutdown and re-open the email app or any other steps on the iPhone? Right now I get in the car with my jailbreaked 6.1.2 iPhone and do nothing. iDrive automatically starts picking up emails.

updated to ios 6.1.4 on my iphone 5. Do not get any notifications. However I started receiving email notifications for the first time.

btw, I can't figure out a way to delete the text messages and emails from the car ?? "Delete Service Messages" does not delete emails and texts.

EDIT: It is not possible to delete text/emails from the car manually. They automatically get removed when you turn off the car.

texts.. but the entire body of the email is downloaded to the car, so you can have it read out to you.

for some reason, my emails stopped working again. This thing is really touchy!!

in spite of the update to 6.1.4, my emails and other notifications are not coming in (though they did come in earlier in the noon for some time).

However, if I kill the mail app and restart it after the pairing has happened, then I get the email notifications.

So it appears that 6.1.4 did nothing to help this issue. Unfortunately, I cannot jailbreak my phone any more since I just got a replacement under warranty and 6.1.3 and above is not jail breakable as of now

That is why I am sticking with iOS 6.1.2.

iPhone emails always are shown in BMW Office the first time after the update.

The question is, are the emails still showing up after the first time without any tricks?

No they are not showing up. After a lot of research I figured out that this has got to do with the way iOS has implemented Blue tooth Push notifications (it is so bad that I would call it a bug rather than a lack of feature).

Unfortunately I cannot re-jailbreak my iphone since I am on 6.1.4, so my only hope is that iOS 6.1.5 or iOS 7 fixes this damn issue, otherwise I will start looking into android.

Good call! My jailbroken iphone's camera developed some issues so had to get replacement last week end and that was on 6.1.3

(That is just one of the two bad things that happened -- the other one was I realized that gmail no longer supports active sync on new iphone hardware, so no getting instant gmails using iphone's native app. I did figure out a seamless work around though --- but then I digress)

That's why I gave up and bought an android htc one. Everything worked like it's suppose to.

Emails are filed under email and text messages are under text.

And you have access to all of your messages, not only the ones that got in after your start the car!

I am able to receive texts and emails via iDrive. Make sure that you shut down the mail app on your iPhone prior to synching with the car via Bluetooth (or as others have noted, you can toggle your mail notification settings).

That being said, all messages show up under the text message folder in iDrive. Has anyone been able to receive emails in the email folder (the one with the @ symbol on it)?

I tried installing update UPD01006, but that just made things worse by making all messages say that they are from "Sender Unknown." There were no other benefits to this update that I could find. I uninstalled it.

I have an iPhone 4S with OS 6.1.3 installed. My car is running version 3.4 of iDrive.
