OE option for more negative camber

So as I was filling a order for a wholesale customer I stumbled upon something that I found very interesting (suprised it took me this long to find).

As with the much of the F chassis cars and their front camber adjusment wishbones, The F30 actually utilizes different versions of the knuckle for its camber adjustments (standard, -30minutes, +30minutes).

So for those desperate for a little extra camber, there is a OE option
Part # is the same accross the line-up (335i, 328i, standard/sport/adaptive)
RWD
31-21-6-854-199 left -30min $211.19
31-21-6-854-200 right -30min $211.19
XDrive
31-21-6-856-535 left -30min $211.19
31-21-6-856-536 right -30min $211.19

The bad news (aside from the price) is that these haven't quite made it to the states yet so it will take a couple weeks to get a pair.

I've ordered a set to examine...that should give me some time to decide whether -30min is worth $400+ dollars, lol

Yeah traditional camber plates average about half that price and are either adjustable or at least provide more camber. Unfortunately, nothing has come to market yet and I wonder if a traditional camber plate is viable in this application

So this would presumably let us go from stock -0.5 degrees in front to -1 degree for >$400

That part sounds to me like a "crash bolt" to help in aligning a car that's got something a little bent. Interesting

Yeah, sure enough right there

Quite a large part to change out just for camber correction - you would think they would have come up with something smaller/easier or adjustable maybe...

Thats pretty much what they are intended for. In the other F-chassis cars and the E70, the U-shaped upper wishbone is used for the same purpose...only they're about $400 each

I guess the real value in these is an extra half degree of neg camber and you'd still be eligeable to run in D-Stock Solo

per the 2013 rule book

Quote:
If offered by the manufacturer for a particular model and year, the
use of shims, special bolts, removal of material to enlarge mounting
holes, and similar methods are allowed and the resulting alignment
settings are permitted even if outside the normal specification or
range of specifications recommended by the manufacturer.
depending on how competitive you are, $400 might be a bargain

Just curious, would this mod alone improve the handling enough to justify the cost?

i just wish the tires didn't wear faster with more negative camber!

It will improve handling but with only -30min added its more of a question of how noticable the improvement is and thus worth the money.

I'm not sure when I'll get around to installing these but my plan is to do a before/after and see what actual measurements I come up with. In terms of real world results I can't claim to be the best judge and I likely wont get out to the track again until aug/sept.

....I can always count on my friend placebo to provide the results I desire

Looking forward to reading your review!

I wish the f30 was out for longer so we might have been able to use some m3 (that isn't even out yet) bits to improve the handling, I remember in my e90 I put m3 control arms on the front and made a big difference!

So I am trying to learn and understand this mod as I am pretty noob. I have heard getting negative camber will allow to for running more aggressive offsets in wheels. I have a 19x9.5 et32 in rear, no rubbing now but I am worried I may have some if I drop the car. Will getting these camber plates allow me to lower my car and avoid rubbing?

well these are only for the front so if your concerned about rear tire clearance these wont help. Currently I'm lowered on H&R sport and run a 20x10 ET41 (= to a ET31 on 9.5) no clearance issues running a 255 tire

I still have not installed mine and probably wont until after summer when the track season starts back up

Would your other option be to get coilovers with adjustable camber plates? This is what I have been researching. There is only one brand that does it and again only for the front.
I would expect that lowering the car would give you more negative in the rear?

TC Kline has coilovers and camber plates on their F30 in the shop, don't know the details but call them if you guys are interested in? TC Kline people are very knowledgeable.

You are correct, it will give more neg camber when you drop it.
