BIMMERPOST NEWSBMW 328d Confirmed for U.S. Debuts at 2013 NY Auto Show with 180 HP / 280 LB-FT BMW has announced some of the important models set for debut at the 2013 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), which has its press days beginning on March 27. With this comes the official announcement that a diesel powered BMW 328d will join the 3 Series lineup in the U.S. [already confirmed for Canada]. A prototype was spotted last September in the US. The 328d will be powered by a TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder engine, outputting 180 hp / 280 lb-ft of torque and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds, while getting mileage that could exceed 40 mpg (official US EPA estimates will be available closer to the launch of the 328d). Also joining the 328d in making their (North American) debuts will be the 3 Series GT and the BMW Concept Active Tourer. The first appearance of the Concept Active Tourer at a North American show likely signals that the U.S. and Canada will also be receiving the upcoming BMW 1 Series GT, which will be based on the Concept Active Tourer. What the release does not mention is the 2014 BMW X5 (F15), which could potentially be making its debut at the 2013 NYIAS. If we do not see the new X5 at the NYIAS, it should then be introduced at the Frankfurt auto show in September. BMW Release: Quote:

While in Europe the 320d is several thousands less than the 328i, I bet that the 328d will be several thousand more than the 328i, here in the US... If BMW is dedicated to introduce more Diesels in the US it will need to put a price tag on it that will make it happen. Let's not forget that the 335d failed because it was much too expensive.
BTW 180 hp and 280 lb-ft should be more than enough. 0-60 in 7.2 seconds is perfect to me. The 320d is rated at higher mpg in Europe than a Passat TDI... let's see what the EPA says ... Last edited by flyingDman; 03-14-2013 at 10:14 AM. |

BMWNA are just being assholes trying to rip you off big time. Here in Sweden the the 320d is is $3k cheaper than the 328i. No wonder the diesel boom hasn't hit the US if all they try to do is rip you off. About the mileage, it's probably going to be rated at ~40 mpg but as you see from my fuelly mine's averaging close to 50 mpg. No problem hitting 60's either if you stay the limit in eco pro ![]() Last edited by Fille; 03-14-2013 at 11:47 AM. |

Now this is really interesting and I think it makes more sense than the 335d did.

I think the mpg discrepancy can be attributed to EU/US cycles? You think you get 50mpg US equivalent in your 320d?

Well.. that 328d will get government incentives (couple thousand dollars saving) which will reduce the actual price to similar 328i o maybe little less.
I think I will consider 328d over 328i.

.. I can see the bean counters calculating in the gas savings ($) of driving a diesel and factoring in a % of that to up the cost
